They may vote Democrat, but America on the whole still leans right on many, if not most issues. This probably has more to do with Bush tarnishing the brand than anything. I don't predict this will stay if Republicans reinvent themselves as fiscal pragmatists instead of their current form as out-of-touch, Bible-thumping loons.

Why in God's name did you people have to make this more confusing by switching the colours? Red=Left-wing for ****'s sake!

I dont trust any news source that uses the word "Pluralities." WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE?

I totally agree with you. And that's why we have republicans-lite; they're called democrats.

When they're not in power, they're taking it in the ass from their superiors.

I'm surprised that so many people switched parties....but not even a miracle can save the economy. i fear Obama will get a lot of backlash trying to cure what Bush failed

You guys know that this isn't a good thing, right?

A democratic nation cannot have a overwhelming majority lest it fall into a dictatorship, or a one-party state.

Of course, I wouldn't be worrying if it was the other way around, but that's just me. :p

It's just a fad of the times. The tables will turn again. It's the circle of life.

This. It won't be long before Democrats will be blamed for all of our woes, especially when our economy is not fixed overnight.

^This :O

Where would the checks-and-balances be if all other parties are phased out?

Shit. America's on it's way to becoming a commie nation.

SOCIALISM ON THE RISE

Told you

Meh, last I checked Obama's victory was only a 'landslide' in relative terms. He won the popular vote by 7.2%, which, according to Operational's OP in the old poll about it, is nevertheless less than the margin by which Reagan beat Carter and Mondale, by which Bush snr. beat Dukakis, and by which Clinton beat Bob Dole. Yet despite those big past victories for either side, the opposition eventually came back stronger than ever each time.

There's a lot of self-congratulation at the moment in America for Obama's election, and I'd a lot of that's justified, but he won by piecing together a few percent here and a few percent there... All the people who voted against him because they believe in the Republicans' perverted brand of Libertarianism, or because they believed McPalin's ad hominems, or because they just disliked Obama because he's black/a babykiller, are still around. There are Republicans who didn't vote for McCain because they didn't think he was right wing enough. For the moment, the Republicans still have plenty of strength left to draw on.

Just don't go making any bets on the GOP having faded just yet. Instead wait and see if there really will be a split between the fiscal conservatives on one side and Palin's moral authoritarians on the other - now THAT will be something which could really change things. I reckon such a thing would be disastrous for the GOP in the short term, but that its happening might be inevitable; the ole free market cultists can't tolerate extreme-far-righters like Palin screwing up their election chances too often, and Palin's sect can't compromise because... well, because they're moral authoritarians motivated primarily by religion, so something's gonna have to give. When or how it will happen I don't know, but I think America, and indeed the GOP, would end up healthier for it in the long term.

Democrats, prepare to be taught how to spell. (Or at least use non-obsolete spellings.)

Ironically, of the two definitions of the obsolete "assimulate," one is to feign or counterfeit. So Republicans should prepare to have Democrats, Socialists, etc. pretending to be Republicans.

The other definition is, as you presumably intended, "assimilate."
