Think of it this way.
When Half-Life 1 was released i could play it on my Pentium 2 400 with 128mg of ram Voodoo banshee. I could also play Day of Defeat and CS in their earlier versions with no problems
As time went by and those mods became more graphically intensive, my p2 400 could not run the games at healthy frame rates. Today in Dod that computer would be lucky to crack 10FPS.
Valve update their games. I suggest getting something far over the recommended requirements to future proof HL2.
