The RnL Mod is coming along very well, and the game looks beautiful in this new batch of screenshots. This time they are showing new hands and weapon viewmodels and new effects for grenade explosions.[br]

Damn that looks good. Glad this mod didn't die.

Sounds interesting, like RO but on Source engine.

Their main goal is super realism which is what I'm looking forward to.

No HUD, no crosshair, full weapon ballistics, no death messages...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; crosshairs are the only way to represent depth-perception in a game, and it's really not realistic without some sort of aiming reticle. And before you say "But there aren't crosshairs in real-life" remember that you don't press keys to move or look at an icon to see where you are shot in real-life, either. Those are just ways to represent actions, just as a crosshair represents the abillity to aim from the hip or shoulder at close ranges.

nah eventually players learn where they are shooting through practise.

it looks fantastic, but i'm very bored of the WWII setting, and total realism. can only keep me hooked for so long before id just rather go outside and experience that kind of realism.

so.. it's like Insurgency in a WWII setting ?

Looks like the grenade orientation isn't quite ready yet, or the private dropped his masher right before the shot (picture one).

Rest looks good though.

cool. I like the fact that there are no crosshairs, dont need them that much, and you've got ironsights if you really need to aim. R&L ftw.

I think its even more realistic than Insurgency and it has a lot of small but cool features I've never seen before in an FP; like being able to look at your watch to see the time or really having to take and unfold a map to get an overview of the battlefield.

Cool!

yeah, if insurgency was realism. this is super realism.

Why do people like Realism I don't bloody get it? Insurgency realistic huh? never mind the lack of muzzle flash then.

If you had ever seen guns fired in real life, you would know that generally it's almost impossible to see a muzzle flash, and certainly it never flashes anywhere near as much as guns in games/movies do.

A better engine such as... Doom 3? Unreal 3?

Oops, we ran out of engines.

Red Orchestra has no proper shadowing or reflections.

Rather pick Doom 3, since that has both those and can handle really good looking games (Prey!) with good FPS.

Red Orchestra is on the Unreal 2.5 engine, not UE3.

Doom 3 would be the worst possible engine to put a world-war 2 game on; not only is it rather un-moddable, the engine simply can't support large out-door areas (it's even worse than Source in that aspect). And most of all, Doom 3 looks worse than Half-Life 2.

Ugh I have, it's nice to take a visit to a firing range every now and then. Comes in handy when your trying to find where the heck that sniper fire is coming from. See now you said it's almost impossible, the difference with Insurgency is that it is impossible.

humm the screenshots look a lot like Call of Duty 2 to me, not RO or Insugency as others are saying. Cept CoD2 actually looks better to me except for the hand and gun models look pretty fantastic. Of course CoD2 is really really arcadey so I can't wait to see the realism in this game. RO is fun as hell and it is probably the most realistic FPS out there that I know of anyway.
People that complain about no crosshair are stupid. YOU CAN LOOK DOWN THE IRONSIGHTS...its the same as a crosshair except its more realisitic to do so.
