About 3 months ago, I canceled my WoW account because I wasn't really playing it that much, and when I did play it, it was time-consuming. (If your in a group with a bunch of people, you can't just drop-out instantly unlike games like TF2 and CS:S where you can just disconnect and come back later.)

There is always some weird thing about WoW that makes you want to go back and play it about a month after you cancel. (Probably just for me :hmph:)

Anyway, some friends at school are also considering playing, which would make it harder for me not to. So....I really don't know what to do. WoW is very fun for me, but it's an electronic drug. Should I re-join and keep playing or stay away from it?

inb4 flamed for playing WoW

Sold my account a long time ago. Feels good man.

Also I couldn't stand to play it again. It's starting to feel so dated and old...

dabomb-san must learn the secrets of ancient martial arts - find your balance, and leave WoW behind you. this is your destiny.

I really don't see the appeal of games like WoW, every gameplay video I've ever seen looks dull and generally uninteresting...

It's ok. Better than it looks. But dumbasses keep making WoW look bad by posting WoW "machinima" videos like this (spoiler'd because it's so goddamn terrible)

Anyway. I kinda miss throwing fireballs at stuff with my friends. :/

I've just recently canceled by subscription again. Don't have the time to clear out Icecrown and kill the Lich King and you need a ****ing achievement to run anything these days (I'm tired of faking all mine).

I'd say hold off until Cataclysm. That's probably when I'll pop back on, with my new goblin mage and the revamped world.

I quit like what 7 weeks ago and I don't want to come back anytime soon. I'm enjoying playing the stack of games I didn't play while I was wasting $$$ on WoW and I don't feel like I earned anything considering everytime you you finished some content new stuff would arrive. i dislike games with no ending

Try Eve. You will never look at WoW again.

WoW is the most tedious game ever made, but somehow remains extremely addictive. Eve is just tedious.

Isn't the teamwork/communication what people are really addicted to? The whole "hunting as a pack" thing? Or is it just me?

I wasn't aware that anyone was still playing that game.

It's because of all the social stuff + it's mainstream objectives that are possible to achieve. For example, some goals are:
-Get to level 80
-Get lots of gold/money
-Meet new friends
-Collect Pets
-Upgrade your class skills
-Get lots of achievement points
-Collect Mounts
-Get good gear to show how big your e-penor is
-Upgrade reputation with NPC factions
-Guilds
-Finish Quests
...and much more
^That plus MMO (Social) is a addiction recipe.

I can't understand why it would be hard to resist WoW...

...unless you play on an RP server like me.

RP server

Are you saying that you roleplay, or you find it fun to troll the RPer's?
(I also played on a RP Server)

EDIT: Also, I noticed this when browsing this thread on my phone...0.0

You should try Warhammer. The leveling system is pretty much PvP.
The way it should be, imo.
Also has a very mature community.

Not a big fan of PvP, but I will try Warhammer when I get a chance. ;)

Nope, I roleplay. John Barlowe the angry drug-addict journalist and former sailor ended up leading a failed rebellion against the King. Now he's officially dead, but the official perspective doesn't account for his current walking around Northrend as a mean psychadelic medieval doctor with a beard that reaches his feet.

it's not that I don't understand the appeal of vanilla WoW, but without this intense storytelling element I don't see what would make it pathologically addictive!

>.> I used to RP, it was fun but I never thought that it was the one sole thing that fueled me to play it :/

Thats the only reason I carried on. Join a raiding guild and get good, and it becomes a job.

The DKP (points) you earn from each boss kill in the 25-man raids is your cash. The loot is your consumerism. Spend the points you earn on new gear that drops through bidding (through whispering to the loot manager), bidder with the highest points wins.

You just want more and more. You want better gear to parade around in. The countless hours I spent wondering back and forth from the auction house to the mailbox was ridiculous. I was just showing my gear off 90% of the time when not raiding. It was a way of saying, without saying a word, that you and/or your guild has killed x boss, especially if you get a server first kill.

Pathetic. Glad I left.

But I miss my guild, it was like family.

If it stops you posting here as much then I'm all for it haw haw haw

No but seriously you sound like you don't want to get back in to it. So don't.

I feel as if there would be better places to spend your roleplaying days.

Da-bomb. They're releasing a lot of content prior to Cataclysm that adds up to the launch of Cataclysm.

Horde get to liberate Echo Islands.
Alliance get to recapture Gnomeregan.

There's some more lore following that as well concerning the Twilight Cult
cceventsummoningportal.jpg

Since Arthus is down, they're also going to make a (probable lower ilvl) raid instance called the Ruby Sanctum to subside with the Obsidian Sanctum

Also, if Cataclysm is drawn out in patch 3.4, there may even be Gundrak Raids etc. However not approved.

So yeah, lots of stuff happening which is worth checking out before the launch of Cataclysm.

Basically, I'd say yes, on two conditions:

a) It's not interfering with other things in life. These can include: being social (as in, actually going outside of the house to be social, not just playing games with friends), school, jobs or even more productive hobbies. You'd be surprised after quitting for an extended period of time how much you get accomplished without WoW.

b) You're actually playing with those friends of yours the majority of the time. If you just sign up because they play it occasionally, then I wouldn't see the point if you're just joining because you feel left out.

I have urges to play WoW here and there, and it's possible I even will at some stage in the future when Cataclysm erupts. Honestly though, I just don't actually have time to apply myself to it these days. Friends/Uni/Jerb/Other Hobbies don't permit it.

Not much you can do mate. WoW is a blizzard game. It's addictive.

Go play it now. Now.

WoW gets pretty boring after you hit the level cap, fuggedaboudit

WoW got boring about lvl 51 for me after 4 months of playing. Quit and never looked back. Really cant understand why its so addicting but oh well.

All I did was play in dungeons, get gear, gold, and achievements.

I was quite intrigued by world pvp but by the time I joined it was all but dead, and I didn't like the battlegrounds, so yeah.

I started playing on the rpg servers just when they were bolstering with people so I did have a good time, the instances were the highlights, grouping up and battling through long areas and getting some cool gear at the end, making new friends. But now its just all gone, you are lucky to find any group for any instance now so I stopped playing again, I probably won't go back unless its get incredibly revitalized as a game, and everyone isn't just off in guilds raiding all the time.

I played WoW for a long time. I don't play anymore, but I still think it's a very high quality game. I've played many other MMO games and I think WoW dominates them all in just sheer quality. Yes there are prettier MMOs and yes there are some with better specific systems, but no single MMO brings together so many quality aspects into a single game.

I mean it's showing it's age, but every expansion upgrades effects and textures to a point so it's not as though they're neglecting them. They're fighting a constant battle to broaden the horizon and bring the game to the masses while simultaneously maintaining a fan base of dedicated players. Thus far they've stuck to building upon the game itself instead of rehashing as much as other games do. People always hate on the winners solely for winning... that's why people will hate the Yankees and the Patriots/Colts and USC/Texas/Whatever and so on for all eternity.

The end of the story line is always going to be that 11 million people are paying for this sh*t and who knows how many bought it to begin with. It's a game with a lot of options for good times, that is both accessible at one end and difficult at another. It may not be perfect but it's a helluva lot better than a lot of other crap out there.

That being said, I'll probably play the expansion when it comes out because I do enjoy the story even if I'm not all about the time investment the end game requires.
