I just wanted to know which resolution would be better in the long run and if this can cause some problems with running my games.

My specs are:

AMD Athlon64bit 3000+
Gigabyte motherboard
1.5 gig of Geil DDR400 Ram
GexCube RADEON 9800XT256
Plenty of HDD space
21" Dell trinitron monitor
Reso: i run my desktop at 1152x864x32bit colour

Now should this cause any problems and should i change back to 1024x768? or is this just fine? how about for running HL2?

go for the highest res possible, and turn down the other settings to make up for it.

so at the moment this res should run fine with most graphics setting on high? with high fps?

I don't know, to say that I would need the game.

I think the best way to find out is to just test it yourself. Whenever I get a new game I usually spend 30 minutes or so just tweaking the graphics/sound to get the best performance and quality out of my system. Also, these seems to fit the hardware forum better than hl2, since you can't really tweak your copy of hl2 yet ;).

Showoff :hmph: ;)

You could run Unreal 3 engine demo with 20 FPS!

I'm jealous ;(

You gotta love the people that do threads like this, all they want is a reason to show off their system specs, and some of the excuses they come up with are completely lame.

And you people fall for it, too?

i would try to arrive at a minimum frame rate, under max load, all settings on high then work back from there. my minimum std that i use it 90 FPS under ANY circumstances, EVERYthing set to max, for maximum eye candy!,
then adjust resolution until you get there.

Considering the Unreal Engine 3.0 demo ran at about 20 FPS on a top of the line system with a GeForce 6800 Ultra....
...I doubt he could

Well, it's really mostly up to your monitor if you can run high resses, and not your setup these days, I would run your desktop at 1280x960 if you have a 19".

Well since this retard is showing off his specs, I might as well show him that he lost.

This morning the FedEx guy knocked on my door at 11 AM. I woke up and ran to the door before he could have a chance to walk away, signed the paper, and tore the boxes open. Woohoo, A64 3200+ and Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo, with Zalman cooler and Antec p180 case! I'm not even going to assemble this beast until the next gen video cards come out, cause I'm definately buying one of them.

There, I win. My dad can beat up your dad! nanny nanny boo boo :P
