Yes i realised this the first time I heard the song. The funny thing is that the same producer produced both albums so the fact that he didnt realise is a big problem on his part. Also, petty is on the warner lable as is peppers so he might not want to sue. I think in the end they will settle.

I've read a lot about this.

Apparently the Petty song has been sped up and the entire version is totally different, anyone heard the full song? It's only that riff that sounds similar. I call bullshit.

Yeah, its close, but there are a lot of songs that contain similar chord progressions. Tom should try to mellow out some more...if that's humanly possible!
