A couple of guys recommended this game, so I got it. I just got it in the mail a little while ago.

I was playing it and the sound crashed. Sound crashes to horrible, horrible, total fubar sounds until I quit. The movies and menu work fine, and the car sounds fine, until I after driving for about 10 seconds - thats when it happens. Once it crashes, all sound in the game is screwed up and what sounds like massive static and electronic blips and popping sounds, with the normal game sound barely audible.

I'm using a brand new Creative Xtreme Music X-Fi with the latest drivers and a cool air ducted fan pointing right at it - so it's not hot or anything, since I heard that this card gets hot. (It has a heat-sink)

Same thing that happened with Max Payne 2, except in that case, the creative driver update fixed it.

I checked for updates. Creative had nothing for me, but I installed Richard Burns patch 1_02.

The last thing I tried seems to work, but it kind of sounds shitty. I turned down the hardware acceleration to the most basic levels. 1 step above none.

This disapoints me greatly. Why does Creative suck so much?

Anyway, I was interested in discussing mods and any other aspect of the game. I got my 360 for windows controller set up pretty well. This game seems pretty fun and realistic. Graphics aren't bad.

Any tips on mods, where to get them, support for sound issues, etc.?

Thanks

Funny I've had none of these issues, and I have no extra fans for my soundcard etc, I have a Creative SB X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Pro.:)

Btw, if you wanna talk about mods etc for racing games, a simple google search can give you some racing sim/game fansites that are far better suited for that!:D

http://www.racesimulations.com/index.php is one I recommend. Also http://www.bhmotorsports.com and http://www.simracingworld.com/index/!

Just some friendly tips, me being an avid sim-racer(Got a Logitech G25 and am pondering buying a raceseat for approx 300 euro), and those are very nice communities when it comes to racing!

Have you ever had that sound issue before in any game? You would know what it is if you had it.

Wierd because people said to avoid the card you have, because they described the issues I'm having. Otherwise, I would have got the Fatal1ty FPS because it was on sale for pretty cheap. Well, that's fuct.

Maybe this thing is damaged? Maybe the output I'm using doesn't have very good support? (2 channel) Are you using 5.1 or something?

Thanks for the fansite links.

BTW I have a sports car seat in here, I was thinking of modding it into an old arcade racing game cabinet with a G25 wheel/pedals/shifter and a VGA monitor. :D I thought of that first bitch. :D

It sounds like it's damaged, I use a 2.1 setup(Two stereo speakers with a subwoofer/bassbooster), only problem I've had is when I switch the input to my 360, in which case I have to go into creative control console and reset all settings to default to get it to work properly.
And that problem I mentioned, is the same as yours, you can almost make the sound out but everything has a ton of static/scratching, so try to go into creative control console and press reset everything to default, it should be under the "Modes" tab!

Those are the ones I'm planning on buying my chair from.:)

But that will be after I buy a ton of other stuff like my new digital video camera from Canon and my new TrackIR..

Didn't work I tried several times. Thanks for the reply though.

Well, at least I learned something. By opening up Windows Xp control panel, and going into performance/advanced tab, and lowering the hardware acceleration seems to fix sound issues.

I should try my old sound blaster card and lower the acceleration to see if it will now work correctly with Oblivion, since that is the only game it had a problem with iirc. EDIT: er take that back there was also that game Riddick. Might fix any game problems though. :)

At least I found my old install disc for that card. Interestingly, it seemed to have a beefier sound, despite costing a fraction of what the X-Fi card cost. Plus I should be able to return the X-fi and get my money back. I should probably try re-installing it in a different PCI slot further away from the video card. I'll have to remove my extra VGA fan though, bitch takes up 2 slots.
