Richard Whiteley is dead.

Just saw this on ITV myself.

I never liked him much at all, i've seen him in person and hes quite arrogant..

But still, he didnt deserve to die young. :(

Who is he now? I understand from the article he hosted a TV show, but is that it?

Hes basically a TV personality that appealed to the over 70 year olds amoung us....

Meaning allmost everyone else on the planet were just irritated by him.

He ran a show called countdown, a imo very irritating show.

Countdown, the greatest sedative there is....

Some boring people try and make words out of random letters, a gameshow.

You're all heartless bastards.

edit: Countdown is good student television viewing.

I read about his "close shave" with his emergency operation this morning and that he was "doing well", shows what the newspapers know eh.

He's like one of those immortal faces that you never could expect to leave TV, like Patrick Moore.

I wasn't a big fan, but it's the end of some kind of era.

Holy shit, I always loved Richard, so many fond memories of him presenting Countdown.

R.I.P.

:(:(:(:(:(:(

Holy crap. Is this one of these faked BBC sites, like the lion one?

Countdown is a decent show. It's the only thing on when all the childrens crap comes on at 15:30. It's been on every Monday-Friday since Channel 4 began.

I wonder if they'll get a new presenter? I doubt they can replace him or Carol, there'd be a huge backlash.

Well he's already been replaced by guest stars since he got sick, like Terry Wogan.

And he'll have to be replaced, or the show will have to be cancelled. They can't have him back on the show.

When I was young, there were cool things like Transformers or Mutant ninja turtles, now there are things like 'Boobahs' or other brightly coloured blobs.

The cartoons that I liked had ninjas and guns and robots and stuff, now they just have parent safe politically correct shite, where the characters have no relevance to anything.

Brightly coloured blobs, I wish they would dig a hole and jump in it.

he was a cool guy, if anyone cant image him, hes the host on the show on the film 'about a boy'. the programme will always watches.

countdown is an awesome show, he will be missed. R.I.P

Oh man, I'm gonna be in bits when Patrick Moore dies, he rules! He's already something like 5000 years old though... ;(

As for Whiteley, I thought this thread was a joke or something! What a shock... I guess that's the end of Countdown then. It will never be the same. Goodbye to another another lazy, relaxing show you can switch on to avoid the insanity of afternoon TV... a real shame. R.I.P.

But Patrick Moore must not die!!

Ahahaha, 5000 years old. He must be nearing it though. The gamesmaster himself.

****. No more countdown for me then :(. He was the funniest one there, damnit.

...

Noooooo! I learnt so many pointless words from this show! Richard Whiteley shouldn't die! Truly dreadful news.

R.I.P. Richard :(

Who the heck is Richard Whiteley, and what the heck is Countdown?

Richard Whitely (Click Here) is a man that used to present a gameshow called Countdown about making up words from randomly selected letters.

He was the first person on Channel 4 (UK) which is my favourite channel because of its alternative comedy etc.

What, you been living on a desert island for the past twenty years? :P

Yeah okay we've established you won't know who he is if you don't live in the UK, now leave it alone, okay!

He was funny, bit of a shame.

;(

Had no idea. Rest in Peace Mr. Whitely, I'll see you in that big numbers round in the sky.

*Salutes*

Those aren't numbers in the sky, they're bubbles on the surface of your eyeball.

he was a great guy.

im not surprised many foreigners knew him tho.

I never got his jokes, i could never do countdown and i didnt particulary like the guy... but he is one of them faces you just grow up on tv seeing. my grandmother loved countdown and whenever she was over, it would be on and we'd all be trying to do it at home.

It's a real shame he died so young and during an operation. :( RIP.

He was a cool guy and i used to love watching Countdown :(. I could never get the words but the numbers were easy.

yeah i also found the number quetions much much easier.

we should make a countdown quiz on this forum tbh :)

Read this in the paper this morning. Didn't like or dislike him because i'm to "EH!" for countdown. :hmph:

Still, its a shame for anyone to die, but thats life.

I saw in on the news, was sad, he's damn cool :( or rather he was.
