Ridley Scott is set to direct Russell Crowe in the Universal Pictures drama "Nottingham," which Brian Grazer is producing for Imagine Entertainment.

Universal earlier bought the spec script by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, creators of the Showtime series "Sleeper Cell," in an auction for seven figures. Crowe was attached at that time (Daily Variety, Feb. 1).

Crowe stars as the Sheriff of Nottingham in a revisionist take on the Robin Hood tale, with Nottingham as a noble and brave lawman who labors for a corrupt king and engages in a love triangle with Maid Marion and Robin Hood. [the love interest is Robin? ..or Marion? ..that would indeed by a revision ;) ]

Production will start next year.

odd that they would do a revisionist take on Robin of the hood

for my money no one will ever top the Errol Flynn version ..although I really like this version as well ...mention costner and die!!!

Eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Robin Hood was a filthy communist.

Changing the character and putting him in a love triangle sounds like a recipe for Fail, IMO.

Oh and as a kid I liked this version :P

the horror ...you peeples have HORRIBLE taste in movies :E

errol flynn "in like flynn" ftw

If you have a minute sometime, look up anything you can find on the man who did the archery for the Errol Flynn version. He's astounding.

And I'm not gonna complain that they're tweaking the story...Robin Hood has been done before, and well. So let Scott try something different and see if it works.

will do ..do you have a name or any other info? I love that movie; I've watched it dozens of times ..one of my fave childhood movies ..Olivia dehaviland (I named my daughter after her) is stunning, Basil Rathbone is by the far the best sherriff of nottingham and Flynn is believable as a likeable rogue ..even Claude Rains (of Casablanca fame) was excellent as prince john

i watched it recently (the ending) with my 3 year old son ..he was glued to the tv ..I had to explain why some of the actors didnt get up after being "poked" with a sword

lol ..yes sort of ..no, I just told him they were tired after the fight and had to lie down ..he didnt look totally convinced I was telling the truth

actually my inlaws german shepperd had to be put down this past weekend ..my son loves the dog ..my wife had to tell him that he went to doggy heaven (a place where there's lots of dogs and he wont be in pain any more) ..he asked where it was and my wife pointed up and said "up there, somewhere" ..he then asked .."did grandpa drive him there?" ..I thought that was hilarious

Couldn't remember the name, but I checked it with IMDB. The guy's name was Howard Hill, unofficially the "World's Greatest Archer." And with good reason.
People report his ability to hit absolutely impossible targets thrown in the air, from skeet to change to aspirin. He's the one they hi-light on Mythbusters when trying to reproduce the split arrow from Robin Hood.

Those clips were very cool. That guy could shoot.

Hmm. This has a good chance of being good.

See, the really interesting thing about Robin Hood is how the invention of the longbow actually meant a huge shift towards the decline of fuedalism..a huge power shift in terms of status.

Pre-Agincourt: warfare requires men in expensive suits of armour; knights are rich. Peasants get maced.
Post-Agincourt: large numbers of peasants with bits of twig and sheep gut > armoured knights.

A simplistic analysis, but - I believe - an accurate one!
