Rig i'm making adequate to run DX10 games in all their glory?

damn ddr3 memory is exspensive.

looks good to me even though motherboards with ddr2 still perform just as well.

Looks like a giant waste of money tbh...
You could get video cards that perform just as well for much less $$. 8800GT or 9600GT.
You could also get a motherboard/memory combo that performs just as well for half that price. Last time I checked, DDR3 wasn't much better than DDR2...
As for crysis at 1920x1200? I'm not sure but I would guess around 30-40fps at max settings.
Lots of benchmarks out there though, google is your friend :)

For the 8800GTS 512MB you'll be able to set it to 1280x1024 with settings med-high and be 'playable' (25 avg FPS).
8800GT and 9600GT performs similar at 1280x1024 although with just medium quality settings.

The model you have in your list looks like a good deal assuming they get more in stock and the savings don't expire. $260 with instant savings ($230 after mail-in) plus Crysis.

I'd recommend dropping the PSU down to a 700-750 watt model to cut some of the cost. Still can do SLI with them.
Like the PC Power & Cooling 750Watt PSU. It's NVIDIA SLI Certified (Dual 8800 GTX and below)
Would save $120 and still run your system with more power than you need.

Also, you might look into a WD 750GB drive instead of the raptor.
Performs basically the same (ahead of the other drives) (WD7500AAKS on the chart) but you get a lot more space. Similar price as well.
FYI 150GB Raptor in chart is faster than the 74GB version

I have an older 74gb raptor and I always have to keep it clear of games I don't play often because of it's size. I have the 750GB WD drive and it is very fast. I have to keep it as my 2nd drive though because I need the space there. Maybe get 2 of the 750GBs instead of the 74GB and 1000GB combo. Would save another $120 but gain 426GB of space overall.

And like they mentioned, if you could switch memory to DDR2 (same brand of DDR3 in your list) you would save a lot of money (save $273) since DDR2 is not expensive new tech with little performance gain.
Of course you would need a different motherboard though.

yeah, i did a bunch of searching last week because I'm trying to build a new PC, but I couldn't get enough help, and I ran out of time. maybe one of these weekends I'll try again.

It will be a much less expensive motherboard and RAM if you don't get DDR3. The cheapest DDR3 motherboard I saw was about $180 I think, and the cheapest DDR2 mobo was like $30.

I think you should get DDR2 RAM with low timings (low latency) and it should be very fast.

www.newegg.com displays the latency of all their RAM.

+1 to the "DDR3 is a waste of money" consensus. Also, I'd go with a 1680x1050 monitor instead of 1920x1200. Your always going to have lower FPS running at a resolution that high, and you always want to try to run LCD displays at their native resolution, else they look rather bad.

First things first, thank you all for your help.

I still think that I'm going to go with the DDR3, and the 1TB harddrive. I might switch to a smaller monitor, but I forgot to mention that it's gonna be running my xbox360 as well, so I believe that I need a decent size. I mean, as soon as DDR3 hits mainstream, the price will drop, and I have a pretty steep curve for the money I can use, so I might as well go big or go home, I think. I also have 2 8800's, don't forget, so I think i'm set for at least a LITTLE while.
