Rise of the Triad getting remake

Looks kind of terrible to me.

And yeah you weren't seeing wrong, it's published by ****ing Apogee. Or at least, whoever bought the rights to the name from 3D Realms. The developer doesn't really have anything else under their belt except a planned remake of Duke 3D in the Unreal 3 engine.

So... yeah.

Since Doom 3, which sucked out of control? Or Rage, which was also terrible?

If Doom 3 had a good abundance of lighting, more baddies to kill, and less closet monster scares it probably would have been a great game... but alas it was not and as such isn't considered an "old school FPS made with today's tech"
Never played Rage.

A good example would probably be the Serious Sam series, which incidentally is still my favorite FPS franchise to date.

RotT seems to be a literal current gen remake of the original game, power ups and all.

Meh, never was a fan of that kind of gameplay, but looks like the game play is well done for those who do like it. The production values in most other regards seem pretty abysmal though.
