I'm on a 2 mb connection. Yet someone on a 512k connection has a ping of 10...compared to mine of 25....and this dude ain't rate hacking

Im on a 1mb Connection and i play with :

Rate 20000
Cl_cmdrate 80
cl_updaterate 80

My average ping is 5 and goes to about 15 - 20 max, higher on small occassions but is normally on 5.

A ping of 25 seems just fine.

Also, having a connection that can handle more bandwidth doesn't neccesarily mean it's going to have a lower ping.

I usually get pings of 45-75, mainly because I live in the middle of nowhere (Michigan) and the closest server, I've run into, is 250+ miles away.

3mb connection, all rates default (don't change them, they'll mess you up).

Yeah, I have noticed this aswell. I am on a 4mb connection, and when I shoot someone it just seems to lag (maybe like 5ms) from when I shoot to when it displays that I killed them. Source just doesn't seem to feel as responsive as it should.

it dosent lag on how fast ur connection is its the distance and for some reason everytime someone throws a flash i lag so it could be that last update

The only lag i've ever experienced on source was my FPS lag on my old system, god that lag is horrible ...

Somehow I doubt you're pinging 5 unless you're right next to the server. :|

I find its all to do with distance, as a Uk player US servers give me sky high pings.

What i find wierd is that on some servers, i get huge pings (200+) yet the gameplay is silky smooth.

Yes i am pinging 5, unless valve have suddenly decided to start covering pings up with false pings, its not just me its happened to either, loads of people i know with the same connection or better have been getting a lot better pings since the last update.

there is really no way that ur ping could stay the same throughout the game and i doubt valve would cover up pings
