I sure hope we can get a rolling demo of some kind. Just have a scenario where a camera slowly flys through the streets of City 17 while a random Combine vs. Resistance battle goes on. But not scripted. So every time it's a little differant. Sometimes Resistance Fighter A12 throws a grenade, and sometimes Resistance Fighter A12 charges. Or sometimes Combine B3 goes down the ally and sometimes Combine B3 goes up to the roof. When you click the exe, just have a little menu for res, AA, AF, texture, dx level, etc etc. All that good stuff.

what? this post is supposed to convince valve to release a rolling demo?

yeah, good luck with that.

Yeah, I mean, of course it would be nice, but they're busy with the game... unfortunatly?

But that would be really neat.

lol, no, it's not supposed to convince Valve silly. But, yeah, this is along the lines of the benchmark, just a non-scripted exactly the same every time one.

Wow I like this idea, only would have to add a benchmark mode so you could have a REAL benchmark = )

they did this with the game killzone, to test out the AI they pitted two squads against eachother, that were ai controled, and it was different everytime.

I really do like the idea this thread has though. Maybe VALVe are listening, and that'll be the benchmark!

That would probably keep me entertained until HL2 comes out, it's a good idea me thinks. Fat chance on it happening though =\

No. Dumb idea. All the weapons? Different NPCs? No.

Keep you entertained? I would play it over and over until it consumed my life and I ended up in an alley way giving head for crack

You mean not everyone does that already?? Oh...

nice idea,, but wouldnt a rolling vid , outside of Gordons perspective, be against what valve are trying to create... in game you only see it through Gordon's eyes. I mean it was kool in the trailer ,. but pretty weird seeing a floating spectators view.

I hope they release that video @ E3. Except I want the flying camera to be unscripted.

I want Gabe to say "The flying camera in this totally unscripted" and the camera just randomly turns in circles and flanks, running into the sides of buildings, pointing up to the sky, it passes by a battle between the Combine and Resistance but you never see it because the camera is panned off to the side. Then the camera zooms in on a toilet on the ground in the middle of the street and just stops moving.

That would be awesome.

This is NOT an idea for pre-release. Not going to happen, not even worth considering.

What is interesting about this is how cool it would still be, after hl2 is out, for a modder/mapper/whatever to just test out the AI and graphics-performance abilities of HL2... set up battles in real-time, anywhere from 2-8 or more squads against eachother, testing out AI, and modded AI too. I haven't seen this before, and would really love to... Especially knowing it'd change every time, is AI-controlled... and seeing it on the HL2 engine.

This is definitely a must-have for whoever can do it :)

Has it been confirmed that HL2 will have some sort of "NPC spawn" command? I seem to remember it being confirmed somewhere.. Possibly in the now huuge info from valve thread..

You people who've played the Jedi Knight games know how much NPC spawn kicks ass! Luke vs Desann etc... :)

Capitolising every word really adds a nice touch. ;)
