Rumor Alert:Tom Clancy MMO?

"?we've really decided now to go for an MMO on the Clancy name, which is big," said Guillemot.

Even though Ubisoft has said it has the technology required to do a Tom Clancy MMO, the company is still debating on which Tom Clancy franchise to utilize, "You have Splinter Cell, Sam Fisher, the Rainbow [Sixes], the GRAWs and all the other new creations we have. So this [IP acquisition] will make that [MMO] product a really big product," said Guillemot.

The untitled game is not set for a release date, nor is it known which platforms it will be arriving on. Guillemot still isn't sure which MMO angle the game will take; he did however estimate the game to cost anywhere from $40 and $50 million to produce.

I don't see Splinter Cell working too well
Rainbow Six could be pulled off, as long as it is all in a CQ area, and you can assault/breach building

Its funny to think that Ubi has never done a Rainbow Six game mentioning the French or the Europeans, its allaways about the US, like if they were the only one to have an army oe the technology...

I recall that Rainbow Six Lockdown and Critical Hour had a Fench guy, a German guy, a Japenese guy, an English guy and someone from Spain. The second mission in both games took place in France. Rainbow Six 3 took place in parts of Venezuela (America too though...)

Maybe an MMO FPS set in the same 'theatre' as that "EndWar" game, i.e. Europeans vs Russians vs Americans, you pick side and fight it out.

Anyway, I like Tom Clancy games, but it's obvious that he's highly biased towards America, heck both supporter of Republican Party, and he used to serve in the US military, so it'd be kinda weird if he wasn't a hardcore patriot.

I guess Mr. Clancy maybe still lives in the days of the Cold War when the US were considered the 'divine champion in the fight against socialism'.

I don't know, iv always wanted to be interested in a MMO but they all suck and are just so much about grinding. This at least gives me a SLIGHT hope for a potential MMO i would be interested in.

I'm not very good at the internet, my apologies for any harm this may have caused you.

Back on topic; if done properly I think an MMOFPS focused on realism and tactics could be quite a bit of fun. Think planetside with proper dx10 era graphics and a focus on realism and persistent stats plus cross-platform play on 360/PS3/PC. Man, that would be awesome.

Rainbow was a multinational force, with special forces operatives seconded from many NATO nations, as well as Israel, though there was definetly a stronger American presence than any other. Hell, even the original Ghost Recon had British, German & Georgian unlockable characters.

Anyway, the Clancy name on a game means nothing now. They are a long, long way from what they were and an MMO will only make the situation worse.

One of the major points of the old Red Storm games (I haven't played any of the recent ones, really) was that if your operators got killed, they stayed killed. I remember how annoying it was when that 1 ghost you'd taken on every mission and built up his skills through firefight after firefight got a stray Russian bullet in the face just just before you completed the final objective on the second to last mission. I really can't imagine this MMO having anything that made me love those early games so.
