Run/slow walk problem

Anybody else having problems getting the run or slow walk function to work? I've been using the standard shift key to run but apparently has no effect. Slow walk doesn't work either.

Not really sure what's going on. Is there a reason for any of that?

It's probably due to the fact that you're not very far in the game - when you first get your hazard suit (is that what it's called?), you can miraculously run.
