a little off topic, just wondering. will i be able to run half life 2 smoothly and clearly 512RAM, DirectX 9, and GeForce FX 5200? like, i wont have to run it on 640x480 or anything will i? because my friend said if you dont have a radeon 9800 pro or an nvidia 6800 ultra then its gonna like shit. anybody know?

You won't have to run it at 640*480, but AFAIK the game will simply not allow you to run HL2 in DirectX 9 with an nVidia card. I doubt there's a huge difference between DX9 and DX8.1 though, other than the surfaces will be about six times shinier than they would be in DX9, and the water is a tiny bit worse.

so what your saying is i wont be getting the full experience out of it, but ill be doing pretty good?

face it mate your graphics card stinks, i used to have that one and its piss, couldnt even run halos basic visuals well. get a 9800 pro, i did.

Well, assuming your processor is at least 1.2GHz, you won't miss much. However if you're a graphics freak (for lack of a better term :)) you might want to consider a Radeon card.

That's a bit uncalled for. nVidia cards aren't worthless, it's just that they, and the FX line especially, don't get very good performance in DirectX 9. And I just said that DX9 doesn't add a whole lot of experience-affecting effects, it's mostly about longer shader algorithms and higher quality effects such as specular lighting.

Well i had a FX 5900 XT 128 MB and it ran cs:s with out a problem, that card did only run in Direct X 8 thats the only problem the game still looked nice, now i have a 6800 GT 256MB worth every penny, and it runs in Direct X 9 ;) i can see a big improvment all setting on high+6XAA+16XAF and no hitch what so ever, unless im on a high ping server which i tend to stay away from :sniper: so the big ? is come Tuesday HL2 will be with us i can only hope this card performs as well, as it has with cs:s.
