running in DX 7 help me please

Hi, i've got a bit of a problem, i can run CSS in Either DX9 or DX7, 9 looks nice but is a bit hard on my feeble processor, and with 7 i can get a ping of 17, and play with deacent graphics, but my cs keeps refering to DX8 by default all the time and i get loads of graphics errors (like super shiney charicters), so is there any way or any start up code i can use to make the game launch in DX7 and stay there?

-dxlevel 70

to your launch options, start the game, quit, remove the command from the launch options and run the game.

I have all my auto-settings on high for everything in CSS (Except AA, AF and HDR which are 0, trillinear, and bloom). If I kept those settings it'd run at 10fps constant.

The engine is pretty stupid when it comes to recommendations.

It thought I could run CS:S with High Shaders, Textures, Models at a good fps on my old 9600xt =/

I was rather under the impression that the "default" settings are standard accross all machines, i.e not customised per machine.
