Running on the field at baseball games

Is it just me or is it unbelievably awesome when people charge onto the field and run around, evading police and inciting laughter on an epic scale. You can't possibly argue this is not the pinnacle of sporting events.

Anyway... why do they attempt to stop them? They should bring out a box full of baseballs to the batter and have him try and pop one of them from a distance.
