I don't seem to be able to run SS2 on my current set up. I haven't played it since I've upgraded my system, which was awhile back. I can get to the menu, but whenever I start a new game my screen goes black and continues that way indefinitely until I CTRL+ALT+DEL out. My system is something along these lines (it's been awhile since I've upgraded so I can't remember everything):

AMD 3200+
ATi Radeon X800XT PE
1024GB OCZ Platinum

I've patched the game to v2.03, installed the WinXP fix, added safe_texture_manager to cam.cfg, and changed compatibility modes to just about everything there is. How in the world do I run this game properly?

Did you add a skin/model pack? It will have to be "mod ready" to play with them I think.

Yes, if by mod ready you mean creating the "res" directory and so on. However, I was having this problem before I even modded my game.

Would your 3800+ happen to be an X2 (dual core)? If so, you need so start up System Shock and go to the menu, alt+tab and press ctrl+alt+del. In the processes tab, find the System Shock 2 process and right click it, then go to "set affinity" and make sure that only 1 CPU core is checked. System Shock 2 has trouble running on dual cores, so making it run with only a single core is often necessary.

Nope, my 3200+ is a single core processor. I'll try changing some of my DirectX settings and post back. Thanks.

Oh, 3200+, whoops. Not too sure what else it could be. That's how I fixed the problem last time I was trying to play it.

Check out the SS2 forums on the ttlg site. They'll be able to solve it, whatever the issue is.
