BF2 has got to be one of the worse optimized games Ive ever played.

Specs
________

1.5 gig ram

brand new abit av8 mobo/freshly installed windows xp and newly reformatted hard drive.

Radeon 9800 pro

AMD 64 3700+ San Diego Socket 939, just got and installed yesterday

Broadband connection

Now, the new processor helped the loading times, but the game still runs really, really, choppy online. In singleplayer the game runs like a dream on high. In multiplayer Im getting unplayable performance on less than medium settings.

What is wrong with this game? Is there any way to appease it?? Jeez

lag my friend lag - broadband is not fast enough for bf2:E fact
just join low ping servers or get a faster dsl connection

btw the game is incredibly optimised imo

Yeah, its either some kind of specific technical issue (bad drivers, bug, etc), or lag.

And yeah, the game's almost over-optimized, in that it takes forever to recalculate when you change settings.

Just don't live in Asia, or you'll have to get VDSL like me and suffer 160+ ping on all servers.

Wrong. Regular 512/256 broadband is more than enough for any online game. It is other factors which come into play introducing lag. These include geographical location, packet services on your network/router (QoS?), as well as your general hardware/software configuration.

This game isn't incredibly optimized, but it's not optimized enough either.

GRASS. LET ME TURN OFF THE GRASS. It is useless as it is.

That's true, it pops up at you at ten feet... wow!

Yeah grass ftl and I'm sick of people with better video cards having more of an advantage than I. I mean, so what, I can't have my geometries at high, they are at low..that means my vehicle shows up to them before theirs does to me! :(

Anyway, I like the way the game runs, although I think it COULD run better on my x800GTO..*I can't play on anything higher than medium.

WTF? Either something else is bottlenecking you, or your PC is stuffed with shit slowing it down. I play on medium on my overlocked R9550.

you cant play on high on an x800???
something wrong with your system buddy

Actually geometry in this game is just LOD, you can see their vehicle but it shows up as a eight polygon box if it's really really far away whereas the other guy if he has geo on high will see your vehicle as a sixteen polygoned box. That's the best way I can explain it

The x800GTO is I think the equilvelant to a 6600gt. And my 6600gt couldn't play it on high settings, I had to settle for medium on everything. So that sounds about right.

Then again, I also only had 512mb RAM and an Athlon XP 2400+ processor.

you can not be .. freaking serious. I just turned graphical settings down to lower than medium and the game still runs like total sh*t in multiplayer. Lag, lag, and lag galore. I don't think I went longer than 10 second intervals without a huge lag spike. This never happens in Day of Defeat:Source, CS:Source, HL2DM, Warcraft 3, FEAR multiplayer, SW:Battlefront 2 multiplayer, garrys mod multiplayer, star wars jedi academy multiplayer, star wars jedi outcast multiplayer, quake 4 multiplayer, ut 2k4 multiplayer and many, many more. Yet the only game thats giving me trouble is BF2.. What a crock of bull.

I have a crappier computer and it runs awesome on medium-high.

My FPS is perfectly fine on medium-high at 1280*1024, but the stutter is absolutely horrible :( 6600GT, btw.

I play with...

3500+
2gb ram
6800gt OC

and I run the game with 32 players at a constant 50fps with max settings and 4x AA. How do you not run the game with high settings on an x800? Something is definately wrong...

Update vid card drivers or try doing a reinstall of windows(delete partition and make new). It sounds like you may have a lot of crap on your system.

I got an X800GTO..everything is on medium.
I upgraded to the newest cat drivers, and that gave me better performance *not much, but it was some*. I could get stuff up to High, but I'd still have the frameloss *lack of ram, only at 1 gig...or maybe because it's only 128 meg vid card.

I then overclocked my video card, defaults are 400/490. got it up to 438/549 before artifacts. Now I can play on all high. But I just dumped them back down to medium and raised my res to 1024x768. now all the text is blurry....\=
