Runtime Error

Ok I don't specifically know what the problem is with the game, but normally when I get to a load point, soon after I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Library window that says Runtime Error, then it gives the path of the game, then abnormal program termination. Now I don't know why its doing this because I just installed it about a week ago and I was playing it fine. Then I had to reformat my laptop and then I reinstalled it and now for some reason it does this. If anyone can give me some advice on how I can fix the problem I would really appreciate it. I love this game and would hate to not be able to play it anymore.

Game is Half-Life 2
The name of the text box is Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

In the message box it says

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\User\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe

abnormal program termination

You have a legit version right cause i have seen loads of pirated versions having this problem

Yes I just bought it the other week and like I said, it was playing fine until I had to reformat my computer. I then reinstalled it and now I have the problem.

Delete the game from your PC and redownload through Steam...

That could take a long time considering my internet connection is quite slow at the moment. Anything else I can do?
