For those of you extra special individuals who care, you will already know the new RUSH album is to be released May 1st. But did you know the cover art has been revealed (a very small thumbnail anyway):

S&Acov.jpg

and the full tracklist:

Far Cry, Armor And Sword, Workin' Them Angels, The Larger Bowl, Spindrift, The Main Monkey Business, The Way The Wind Blows, Hope, Faithless, Bravest Face, Good News First, Malignant Narcissism, We Hold On

Note there are 13 tracks... hopefully a lucky number.

as much as I loved rush in my youth I just cant get into anything after power windows ..it all just seems like Rush lite to me ...but then again I was a fan since Hemispheres

but it's good to see them still making albums after all these years

I've just heard a clip of their first single "Far Cry", it sounds a lot heavier than normal Rush.

The band went back to their 3 piece roots with Vapor Trails, their last album - not one I liked really that much, hopefully the new one will be an improvement - it's produced by the Foo fighters guy, and from the clip on their site it sounds very much like they are continuing along the Vapor Trails line.

Saw the 3D anim of Peart a while back, that took a lot of work indeed. But if you haven't seen the last solo he did, you MUST watch this - it's Der Trommler from the R30 tour... try and keep up with his hands near the end ;)

Der Trommler

When I went to Tronna the CN tower was shut :frown:

meh not much to see up there ..clouds, the tops of other buildings, the occasional bird.. etc ;)

ya peart is awesome ..saw them a few times ..funny to see all the air drummers during his yyz solo

...and kicking. If you were still able to do what you love doing and still do it well after 3 decades, would you stop? :D

'Far Cry' MP3 snippet (no relation) just released - full single available Monday!

my history teacher loves rush more than anything else in the world, i've never cared for them except for YYZ in guitar hero

I wish I had a teacher like that when I was at school. Oh wait, I guess I did... my art teacher was into Led Zeppelin. I never got into them.

Plus ca change, plus ce la meme chose.

If you like 'YYZ', try 'La Villa Strangiato' from Hemispheres. Technically it beats YYZ hands down, but for some odd reason never gets used as a benchmark. Maybe people just can't say it.

Hard to tell just from a lo-fidelity 14 second clip so i'm not making any judgements, but certainly sounds like it has been engineered better than Vapor Trails and has all the hallmarks of their earlier work.

In other news the previously advertised cover art in the OP has been proven to be false, and the promo artwork for the single is also in doubt, but as it's Hugh Syme I'm sure it will be a good 'un.

mmmmm RUSH. I love them. Though I agree with Stern...the newer RUSH stuff just doesn't sound like RUSH to me *Though I still like listening to it..*

That was the case during the synth years (which i must admit were my faves) from Signals up until Roll the Bones, but since then they have gradually reverted back to their rock roots. If you haven't listened to Counterparts or Vapor Trails, and you liked the older, heavier sound, you should.

New official site launched plus full Far Cry radio single in glorious lossy compression here.

Since the hesitant and uncoordinated last album Vapor Trails five years ago I believed RUSH were long past their best. I was wrong.

Incredibly new and fresh sounding, like nothing they have done before, yet subtly but unmistakably RUSH... Snakes and Arrows is almost 20's Americana in places thanks to Alex's twelve string, mandolin and Bouzouki sound, with a large measure of R&B (that's Blues, children) and a lot of good old rock, always melodic and tight - this is a good album.

Maybe even great.

Probably because this is a very strong album with a rich vein of consistently good tracks running through from start to finish, possibly the strongest since Hold Your Fire. As with all RUSH albums, there is usually a weak link in the chain somewhere and everyone has their views on the 'worst' song, but it's been commented and agreed on already that the worst track on S&A is still better than any of the worst tracks from any previous album to date. Few however can agree on which is the weakest track, as they are all fresh and ultimately entertaining. I have to agree with this as I can't point a finger at a single track that I don't like straight off, so strong is the integrity of the album.

As well as the usual stocking fillers (some which are really really good) there's also a high dose of instrumentals in this one, no less than 3 - The Main Monkey Business being the longest and most complex, though sadly not on a par with La Villa Strangiato, YYZ, or the Gangster of Boats Trilogy, it is still competent nonetheless. The second Instrumental is a pure guitar solo by Alex called Hope, which is short but beautiful in a sepia tinted photo kinda way, and Malignant Narcissism is a catchy and an entertaining nod to Team America and the South Park guys. I am digging this track the most right now.

Superior quality production and engineering separate this album from Vapor Trails by a loooong shot. This has to be one of the best produced albums since... well, probably the best produced so far. Also gotta mention the superb artwork by Hugh Syme yet again, with a series of characteristic illustrations for all the tracks and although not the front cover art, the back cover is illustrated with one of his best so far.

While Vapor Trails was the result of a stroke victim learning to walk again, Snakes and Arrows soars like a buzzard above the desert and will i'm sure do very well indeed, not only with existing fans but also new listeners alike, so accessible is this album.

Brought to you by the letter 'sssss'

PS - Walmart has snippets of all tracks

Enjoy ;)
