can anyone confirm that the newest, "essential" mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl are compatible with the steam version? float32 etc
thanks!

Hmm I can recommend quite a few mods, but I have no clue about modding the steam version. I've read a few times that the steam version isn't modded as willingly as the retail version. Anyway, my recommendation list would be as follows.

graphics
S.W.O. (2.2.2 is the newest) (includes SHARPER, stalker skies and an optional Sky4ce shader mod (which you should not install)
Float32
Fallout flashlight

gameplay
Endurance
Non degrading armor and weapons
No timelimit on quests

Then you should add into the launchoptions "-smap4096 -nointro".

I personally also did my own weapon mod that tripples all damage from any gun. It makes the game quite more interesting (but HARD). I can send you that, and include my own customized user.ltx and weather_default.ltx if you're interested.

My results can be seen here. http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?p=2709299#post2709299

actually your post in that thread is what got me interested in the game again :p
so thankyou for the recommendations
i will definitely be downloading the graphics and gameplay mods that you've suggested

i'd like to purchase it through Steam though, so i need to know that they will work
i did a google search but i couldn't come up with a conclusive answer :|
i'm gonna check the steam forums again . . .

*EDIT*

which site do you use for all your mods?

mods should work no problem...they might however dissapear if you verify

Oblivion lost 2.0

I whole-heartedly recommend it. Does it run on the Steam version?

Ive heard of some mod that gives working cars in Pripyat.

Da, also comes with OL2.0. Not just in pripyat though, there's cars/tanks/trucks/tractors scattered round all the maps that you can drive.

Just don't hit any anomalies.

srsly what mods should I use with my steam version.

ok I get it niw lol what othe good graphicla enhancement mods are there?

When you go to download the mods, check for compatibility with the latest version (which Steam presumably will update you to, and is 1.05, I think). Most mods have been tested on 1.04 and should work with 1.05, but there's a little risk.

Also, make a backup copy of your game files - mixing mods and finding out something doesn't work makes it difficult to 'undo' them (as opposed to dropping a pristine copy of the original directory and files back in).
