Saddam trial: victems of alleged massacre still alive

CNN said:
A defense witness stunned the court trying Saddam Hussein and fellow regime members Tuesday by testifying that nearly two dozen Shiites the defendants are accused of killing are still alive.

The claim by the anonymous witness prompted Chief Judge Raouf Abdul Rahman to order an inquiry.

Defense lawyers said that if the claim was true, the court should review the entire case against Hussein and his seven co-defendants.

you'd think that they'd make sure that the people they accused Saddam of killing were actually dead

edit: eep, this probably should have gone in politics

I'm not sure whethre to laugh at this or not.....

Just round em up and shoot em. Nub P90 style.

Heh, that must be embarrassing. Now things are going to be delayed even further. But I guess it goes to show that democracy is working.

what's worse (depending on your pov) is that this could be used as reasonable doubt ..it's the only mass murder case saddam is being tried for

I see what you mean. If they somehow find him innocent of these charges and allow him to go free, the implications to the U.S. (and in turn, the rest of the world) would be huge.

Nice, the "Justice" system over there is just as f'ed as ours is over here!

Seriously though, what a n00b team if they miss that!!!

ya, even saddam doesnt want that ..in fact they asked for US help in finding those supposedly dead people

Hussein and his former intelligence chief, Barzan Hassan, stood in court and called for an investigation.

"We heard today a very dangerous thing, which puts the court at a crucial crossroads," said Hassan, who also is Hussein's half-brother.

He even called for U.S. officials -- whom he has repeatedly accused of interfering in the trial -- to help with the investigation.

"We trust the Americans more than Iraqis," he said.

Wow, the fact that he wants an investigation on the information that goes in his favour is pretty admirable, yet highly suspect. There's an irony in him wanting the U.S. to help too.

I think he's afraid he'll be torn to shreds if handed over to the iraqis ..they're mostly old enemies ..who now conviently have positions of power in the new government ...wow, what a coincidence
