A few minutes ago I tried putting my PC at 1600x800 on the desktop, but sine my monitor couldn't support it, whenever I boot up, it loads Windows, I hear the startup sound, but I get no picture. I thought to boot up in safe mode, but forgot how. I read online that you're supposed to do something with F8, but I didn't get far. I really really need help. Please. I need to type a report tomorrow as well.

press f8 before the windos logo come up. just keep pressin it. eventually it will open a bunch of options. just chose safe mode.

Tap F8 when your computer boots up and a menu should come up. If that doesnt work get another monitor that supports 1600x 800 connect it to the computer and go into windows and change the setting and then connect your old monitor back.

Ok, I got that menu to pop up, but it says something like this:

Boot up devices:

Then it lists a bunch of devices in my PC, I think.

Ok, let's explain.

On boot-up, the normal stuff happens, and I see, at system start, it says something like [F8[ for BBS Settings, or something like that, and it also says, [DEL] for setup. Doing the F8 one loads up a small menu which asks which device to boot up. With no success there, I went into the setup, and still couldn't find a safe-mode option.

This is really pissing me off. Can anyone help?

Safe mode is not found in the bios (i.e. setup)

When you tap f8 on start up you should get a menu that has 'boot normally' selected by default. Above it you should see something that says 'boot in safe mode' or something similar. Select that and press enter.

btw, it might take a while to boot that way so be patient.

I don't get that at all......I e-mailed Asus' tech support with my problem...I really need this fixed...

turn off - remove and replace graphics card - turn on - bios will have detected your graphics card has been freshly installed, and your OS will have reset driver options to default.

Your F8 seems to be a bios function. My bios has a boot menu but it's set to F11. Wait til after your bios screen shows. There should be another screen before your Windows begins to load. That is when you press F8. It should not show floppy or harddrive to boot from but rather options like safe mode.

Just hit F8 a bunch and when you get to the device menu, select your hard disk drive (which is booting normally) and immediately start hitting F8 a bunch more. ;) Then select Safe Mode.
