Does anyone here know how I can safetly overclock my 9800 pro? I know there are programs, like rage 3d tweak and the ATI tool, but I dont know if I should trust these...

any help would be appreciated.

ATI tool finds the maximum core and memory overclocks before artifacts start to show, so you should be at no danger when using it.

i tried that, but my temp went up from like 35 c to 45 c, and im afraid that the card might burn out...

can u tell me more about the ati tool,

...too worried ill *uck up

Seriously, don't worry - 45c is no-where near enough to break your card. When it starts burning you when you touch it, you should get worried.

It varies, but as soon as you start to see artefacts in games/ATi Tool it means your card is starting to overheat, that's when you need to tone it down a little so you no longer see the artefacts.

so as soon as my game starts going ape shit, with errors in pixels and the likes, i should quit and tone down the ati tool?

btw, many thanks abom

You can tell if your card is too hot by placing a finger on it. If you can keep it there for 5 seconds, it's fine.

what part should i place the finger on though? :D

what does heat up phase mean in the ati tool?

like when i do the max core or max memory, like every 30 seconds it says "heat up phase and X time left"

It does something that raises the heats of the 3d card by pushing it to it's limit, just to see how hot it could get when gaming. Basically it just makes sure you won't get any artifacts at that speed.

anyone here who has a 9800 pro that they overclocked?
and if someone does have it, can they tell me what they overclocked the core and memory to?

I have an OEM 9800Pro, so it really doesn't overclock very well. I can get to about 396/347 before artefacts start showing up.

I have a ATI 9800 pro 128mb, havent even considered overclocking it.
wouldnt you need some new fans to cool down the card?

Mine OCs pretty well on stock cooling, currently at 412MHz Core, 365MHz(730) Memory. It's an ATI retail card.
