I dunno about you but this game looks like a lot of fun to me. I loved the first one and it's by far the best GTA clone out there. The storyline and dialog might be a bit stale compared to the GTA series but it sure as hell managed to convey the fun and juvenile spirit of the original games. Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed GTA 4 very much but it just doesn't have that long lasting appeal of the previous games imo.

Just take a look at some of these short feature videos of the game http://www.gametrailers.com/game/4813.html

I'm starting to really look forward to this game. I hope it's something like the tech of GTA IV plus the fun of Vice City.

Yeah, i am definitely looking forward to it too. I Am a bit worried though that it'll be somewhat of a disappointment like Mercs 2 turned out to be. We'll find out next month,i guess.

I have no interest in this one. There are way too many other games out there that require my attention and I already have GTA IV and have not completed it entirely, so this one will not be coming home with me.

been watching a couple of early reviewers broadcast themselves playing the game over on Justin.tv recently
gotta say it looks like a helluva lotta fun
the main missions look great just like the first but it's the mini games like fightclub and "fuzz" that make the game worthwhile
not to mention full online co-op
definitely picking this game up on the 14th :)

I doubt the tech will compare at all well to GTA4, but I expect it to be a whole lot more fun.

I'll give it a rent, either that or I'll pirate it when it comes round PC way

If it's anything like the first then it'll be terrible. I've kinda gotten over the bitterness I had towards the complete lack of originality and just how shameless they were in ripping off San Andreas, but the game is still terrible. It's clear that these idiots don't understand why GTA is a good game ... they don't see past the violence and the ability to shoot hookers or whatever. This is most apparent when hearing the embarrassing attempts at humor in the game. They hear an ad like "Rusty Brown's Ring Donuts" in GTA, think it's funny ... and then try to emulate it by having a bunch of voice actors talk in stereotypical gay accents about how they like to suck cum out of penis and lick assholes. Another example is picking up whores as a pimp and you just hear them make sex noises in the back seat with no hint of irony and little self-deprecation. It isn't funny, they missed the point.

They also missed the point with the gameplay. When I played it ... I never felt motivated to do ANYTHING. The gameplay itself wasn't compelling enough, and the narrative focus to push me along was non-existent. It's just a bad game with atrocious writing.

But I'm sure their target demo will eat it up.

Roid Rage much?

I found Saint's Row to actually be truer to what made the original GTAs such simple, good fun. It certainly got the gunplay and crazy driving/crashes done better. If GTA 4 is what GTA is meant to be, they can shove it.

What is it that you didn't like about GTAIV? The fundamentals of the gameplay were amazing. The driving felt right, the shootouts were perfect (and not just "good for a GTA game", they are fantastic). The gameplay was just incredibly polished and solid.

Then there's the presentation. The graphics are great, the city is incredibly well designed and full of character. The game is filled with atmosphere. It's hilarious. The story is legitimately good - it has some of the deepest, most well developed characters in any game ever.

My only problem is the lack of replay and other cool little game features that keep you coming back long after you beat it. San Andreas had this but GTAIV was lacking in this department. But goddamn ... I still clocked in 55 hours on the game for one playthrough.

I'm not gonna bash you for liking Saints Row, I've made my opinion on that clear, but why on Earth do you think it will be "more fun" than GTAIV? At best it's a mildly amusing stop-gap between GTA games.

Why is GTAIV the reason that Rockstar can "shove it"? If they let you run around naked and slap people with your dick would it really be a better game? Maybe it'd be funnier if they just removed all the "innuendo", "subtlety" and "talent" from the presentation? I honestly don't see what people find in Saints Row that could possibly make them like it more than a GTA game.

GTA 4 although a great game offers not much replayability. The fun factor wears off quickly once you're done with the story mode. They took out several features which defined the series for the sake of "realism".
Why Saints Row 2 may not appear to be as artistic and cinematic,it sure as **** looks a lot more fun than GTA 4. A proper co-op mode alone is worth purchase imo. Something that Saints Row 2 has and GTA 4 lacks.

Anyway, if you hate it so much and are not interested in purchasing it,why even bother replying to this thread then?

I addressed the replay value issue in the post you quoted. I agree, but I also pointed out that I spent 55 hours on the game and feel like I got quite a lot of value. Saints Row held my attention for less than 5 hours. Replay value only comes into play if it can hold your interest till the end.

It certainly wasn't as much fun for me. The co-op mode is a nice feature though, and because of that I might wind up giving it another chance with a friend.

Anyway I'm not trying to dog the thread, but I am still curious as to the positives people see in this game. I've heard it's "more fun" but I'm asking why. Is it because you can run around naked? Make your character fat and wear heart boxers? Is that what makes it more fun? Normally these things are all fine I guess if it fits in with the tone and style, but in this particular case it seems like it's just a clone of GTA but with far inferior game mechanics and these silly "features" thrown in.

As far as why I posted about a game I dislike ... the same reason I would post about about a game I did like I guess. Or about anything else. It's a forum for discussion, I have somewhat strong views on the game so I decided to post them. Is the purpose of a forum to only say positive things about whatever the topic is?

I do also feel that SA offered more replayability than GTA IV, but I definitely wouldn't say that GTA IV offers little replayability. After I finished the story, apart from doing some of the side missions etc. I simply messed around. Then I stopped playing for some time, but I still come and play for an hour or two every now and then. Apart from causing mayhem, I like to simply drive around, do crazy jumps etc., laugh at the Euphoria engine, jumping out of cars going at high speeds or crashing my motorcycle into things. Starting firefights in the Russian district is great fun as well and so is having Dwayne's buddies to hang out with you and fight alongside.

Also it's fun to roleplay and think up scenarios for yourself ^^

I didn't like gunplay much. Rather than tense, more tactical encounters - which I think was the intension - it felt clunky (Crackdown did lock on aiming much better) and slow. I just didn't find the combat engaging at all. No brainer shooting is fine when it's fast and furious, but GTA4 was the opposite.

The worst part, however, was the bloody the baysitting. I think I managed about 3 friend 'missions' before giving up on them completely. So dull, so pointless, and so frequent.

Laslty, there was just too much padding between the good bits. The car chases were great, but too infrequent. Maybe Saint's Row - which at times had entire neighbourhoods filled with gang vs. gang vs. cops, with bulltes, rockets, and vehicles EVERYWHERE - has desensitised me.

In the end I never finished GTA4 because I got bored and stopped. 1 hours gameplay would equal 10 mins of fights/car chases and 50 mins of cutscenes, internet cafes/tv watching/clothes buying, phone calls/babysitting, and driving to and from missions (i.e. real boring shit).

Hey, I knew the head writer on that game, and .... well, actually I never liked him all that much, so I don't really care if you didn't like his stuff. Anyways, I never played it, but my friends liked the story. Of course, they knew the writer, too ... What were we talking about?

Yes. Same City which they have changed significantly.

Well, i changed my mind completely. Not because the quality of the game but how Volition is treating their user base for even bringing up the delay of the PC version on their boards. They have already banned several users just for discussing it. They ****ed up and they're not willing to admit it. No word on why or till when the game is delayed. Nothing but bullshit from this developer as well as the publisher, who owns them.
They could learn a thing or two from companies such as Valve.

so who's played it? first impressions? how's co-op?

can't wait to pickup my copy at the end of this week!

glad i have a 360
this game is alot of senseless fun
and i havent even tried co-op yet!

Co-op is the best part. It's lots of fun to play the entire story with a friend and there are so many activities to do it's crazy.

Fun game. Lots to keep you busy :)

Haven't tried the multiplayer or the coop mode's yet. Want to complete the main story first and im on 25%.

I hear the co-op is pretty open ended and lotsa fun. It's the main reason why i wanted this game.

Okay, SR2 isnt as good looking or polished as GTAIV, but it's m.o.t.h.e.r.f.u.c.k.i.n.g FUN.

I played a bit of this around my mates. It ain't as good as GTA, but it is not meant to be serious tbh. Everything in it - the driving, the shootouts, all of it is just so ridiculous and improbable. And great fun.

why I hated GTA4, waay too realistic. GTA SA best in the series imo.
