Sam Raimi to direct World Of Warcraft movie

Sounds like a good team to create it - but I really see no reason to create it in the first place...

Original post translates to: Movie will be shit.

I'm currently on the almost quitting WoW phase. i'm at lvl 77 and see no reason to continue paying money to play such a boring game

If Blizzard have any hand in it this will be horrifyingly cliche-ridden, corny and predictable.
Probably lots of special effects, action, gore and explosions though so the masses should be satisfied.

Sam Raimi can probably manage all those things just fine without Blizzard. Did you see the Spider-Man movies?

At least they had a couple of redeeming features, like Molina as Doc Ock.
Blizzard manage the awesome cringeworthiness of 'Jazz Evil Venom Spiderman Dance' as a matter of course.

Oh for f*ck sake, I am ABSOLUTELY FED UP! Nobody can make a decent pitch for movies these day. Its f*cking hard to find any real ORIGINAL films. I'm leaving, bye!

*Picks up coat and storms out room!*

Lets all pray that it doesn't end up as another Dungeons and Dragons movie, god that movie was... D:

Also, they never actually said that it'd be a WoW movie, just a Warcraft movie.

Bad news either way, though. :|
Unless it's totally CGI then I can't see this being good.

The whole thing smells of fail. Unless things have changed of late, my understanding is that this will be live-action, not CGI.

Also Alliance-centric, which I'm sure puts it into territory already covered by LOTR. And I'm tired of Blizzard calling everything "badass" now.

LOL Sam Raimi is really the last person I'd think of to direct this.
Forget a World of Warcraft movie, lets have a Starcraft movie instead.

Amen. On the other hand, I'd rather they screwed up Warcraft than Starcraft.

this movie is only going to have one audience i believe. fanboys

A lot of people play WoW, Warped. Even if you ****ing hate that fact.

blizzard should go back to make starcraft:ghost

That's what he said, fanboys.

He makes it sound like it's only some tiny little sect. The game has mainstream appeal, and surely some of that would carry over to the film.

It's not like Blizzard is making a Lost Vikings movie to appeal to some concentrated nerdbase.

Nah, nah WoW has loads of fanboys. It's like talking about Halo fanboys, they number in the bajillions.

Sam Raimi?! I love him (not for the Spider Man movies), but him? HIM?

"A post to the Quarter To Three Forums reveals English screenwriter/game designer/video games journalist Gary Whitta had been working on a script of the Warcraft movie for two years, though it sounds like he's off the project now that Sam Raimi has been signed as its director"

Gary Whitta of Pc Gamer podcast fame. nice guy and knows his stuff but is an unproven screenwriter with only one movie to his credit and I'm not even sure it was ever released

btw he's also the screenwriter for the upcoming Akira movie

Although raimi is certainly a higher profile choice than most people attached to video game movie projects it still won't work. Game storylines are written differently than movie storylines and if the screen play is **** then the director can't do anything about it. Warcraft has a deep mythology behind it that spans many games and huge mmo. Can that really be condensed into a 2 hour movie?

Hah, the "depth" of Warcraft lore isn't the problem. It's the cheesycorn that Blizzard excrete and spread across everything they touch.

Of course it can't be 'condensed'. That'd be stupid, even for Blizzard. It's a big world and the obvious option is to set a 2 hour story inside it. DUHHHH

Not that Blizzard will choose any of the interesting bits to make a movie about. But Garry Whitta?!? I feel almost duty-bound to support it now.

Will hollywood really do that? cos then only warcraft freaks will see it and that limits revenue for the studio.

thye will use theyr tipical trashy trailers whit fast cuts to fast music and the "scare" at the ending and possibly some try to make it look like lord of the ring and people will go see it

Oy vey!

Can't wait to see Emo Elves doing the strut.

So for game movies in the works, we have this, Prince of Persia, Halo, Bioshock, Uncharted, Castlevania, Tekken... did I miss anything?

Halo ain't happening. At least not with Peter Jackson. Bioshock has been put on hold.

There's an Asteroids movie in the works though. Whoopee!

didn't we already have Asteroids the movie with Bruce Willis?
