Hi before i start I will list my specification of my machine:

x800PRO
1GIG DDR RAM (2x 512)
3200AMD XP
NFS-7 mother bored

ok i am worried that my card is nakerd here is my problem:

I play counter-Strike Source and half life 2 at a high quality
1280x1024, i get around 60fps depending on map. I turn the resolution and all textures, AA and AF to lowest and i recieve the same fps!!! why! the fps with my specification should be at least 3x that speed. it is driving me nuts! I sthere a problem with my graphics card? is anyone else experiencing the same problems as me?

I need a response, i need help.

What the heck, 60 fps is fine! And anything above 72 is pointless because our eyes only see 72.

It looks like there is some kind of.. Frame limiter...

Vsync I think. Not much help, but search around, theres been a couple threads about it before, and it often leads to an argument over how many FPS our eyes can see.

I have a system almost identical to yours and at points i was getting 100+ FPS 6xaa/16xaf 1280x1024 with an X800pro...and no, i was'nt staring at a wall..i was running around as per usual.

1. Disable Vsync
2. Type fps_max 300 in the console

And... What does this have to do with anything?

Are you just gloating?

...Gloating? Is that a new word for helping?

If your to thick to see what i'm saying then don't even begin to whine.

dude mabye i didnt mention, it was a average. i usaly get 30=50 on dust 2, while 80-120 on that castle map. i not a total noob, i know v sync is off, both on my card and game, AA and AF are aslo on application pref, so AA and AF settings are directly from the game.

Thanks for respose,

Alig plaease mention what drivers you are using. i should be recieving similar specs. I am worried my card is damaged.

what specs r u running on? what OS? what card, etc etc. do you have a 64CPU? i am worried, i am considering in replacing my card
at current i am using catylst 4.12 controll pannle. i am using media center addition 2005, however this is not the problem because XP had the same problem.

any more help is truley greatful.

I'm glad the person i was talking to got the message.

I'm using the 4.8cats, 1GB DDR400, XP Pro, Fragmented HDD :p, +2.6AMD (which is running at the same speed as your CPU is), Card? X800pro, or do you mean what brand? (Sapphire if so).

You should'nt drop FPS as much as you say you are. Has your card been overclocked?

did u try my earlier suggestions? id be very surprised if neither of them worked...

Just increase your refresh rate to 75 at least. You should be getting up to 75fps then.

Thanks Alig i also have a sapphire x800 pro my cpu shud run at 2.2 considering its a 3.2. 4.8 is old. i will try that driver! thank you very much. i will post back to c how things get on. I am glad you know and understand the situation! thanks again best get my sapphire driver out.

Ummm.... Don't do this. Increasing the refresh rate will DECREASE the FPS. FPS is a measure of how many new frames per second the videocard will render on screen. Refresh rate is how often the monitor redraws (refreshes) the picture on it. If you up the refresh rate, you will force the video card to do more work re-drawing the same screen image, and will leave less cycles to render new frames, and your FPS will decrease. The GOOD advice given so far is to disable vsync (which caps your FPS), and to set max_fps to over 100 -- some systems default this to 30 or 60 apparently). Try these tricks, and let us know if they helped (but please do not up the refresh rate in an attemp to up FPS).

commenting on Alig's 4.8 drivers, they made no difference. I think directx 9 is slowing it down.

in the original counter-strike i played it with RADEON9600 and recieved 100fps @ 1280x0124

with worse quality using direct x 9 i am recieving a poorer fps or simialar, considering this is a x800 pro this should not be happening!

the other information still does not work. I am sure i cant be the only person having this problem :(

Alig did you use the drivers given on the disk?

That means you have a bottleneck that isn't related to graphics. Could be your processor (don't know hoe fast AMD ones go), sound card...

Nah i've got the 4.8's of www.ati.com. DirectX 9.0 should'nt slow it down..its a fully compatable DirectX 9.0 card. It should run circles around HL2 and CS:S but it sounds like its the other way around.

I'm using DirectX 9.0c by the way.

@Varsity - It should'nt be his CPU (even if it is considered average now), i can run HL2 at 100fps using a 2.6AMD, and same card. My sound card is an Audigy2 but i was using Plantronics USB headset anyway which uses its own drivers and does'nt plug into a sound card...just straight into a USB and voila'.

CPU was just an example. My point was that graphics processing power clearly isn't what is holding his fps back. :)

No offense, but try reading your own thread the next time. The most likely solution has been mentioned 4 times.

Try disabling Vsync in the video options menu

But on second thought, leave it on, Vsync off creates ugly screen rips and the extra framed gained are useless. If you're really a fan of higher fps, try turning the refreshrate of your monitor up to 85 Hz or higher.

ok sorted, for all those who are using a x800PRO or other cards these are fantastic drivers, they run on the similar to the catylst drivers accept they have been edited to make them more effecient. they are regulay updated at current the latest one is 4.12 ;)

http://www.omegadrivers.net/

use the quick menu on the left of the screen to navigate.

I can now run the game at everything maxed out (better than before) at 1280x1024 with the following specs

x800 PRO
3200XP
2x 512 = 1024GB DDR RAM

I used ot be only able to run dust 2 at 20-50 fps on 4x aa and 8x af. i can now run 50-80fps at 6xaa and 16xaf with all textures maxed. thats a large differnce. aztec now run around 80-130 fps on maxed.

I had heard of these drivers before however had never used them. If your having problems give it a go! http://www.omegadrivers.net/

the apparently run the direct x more effeciently
good luck

dammit, that's just an urban myth!!! people need to get this into their heads, it's scientifically proven that there is no limit as to how many FPS the human eye can see! if you had a 200 fps running monitor, your brain would be able to see each frame...

your eyes see the world as a constant stream, not in pictures... so you could have something flashing at 500 fps, and your brain would know that it wasn't constant!

and also, why is it that i can see the difference between 200 fps and 80 fps so clearly? that should be the first sign, right there! :p

the higher the fps, the better!!!

thing is, the monitor is the only thing that's stopping you from seeing the entire fps range... most monitors are about 85 hz i think... so anything above 85 fps, it won't be able to show... but the game'll still look better, as it's ''downsampled'' instead of ewual or ''downsampled''...

for instance, if you take a HDTV video and resize it to ordinary size, the image quality would be better than if you took a tiny video and upsampled it to ordinary size, if you know what i mean...

nothing personal, but i always get annoyed whenever people are really shure that they're right about something, when they're not... i don't know how shure you were about it, but still! :p

y ru complaining about 60fps i would be happy with that i only get like 30 to 40

well, i'm getting an average of 45 fps on the video stress test... i think it's pretty nice, but then again, i'm used to chopping with my fx 5200 :p

i'm getting my brand new sapphire radeon X800 pro 256 mb tomorrow though, and i'm really looking forward to it!

Mofo exact same card as I have. they are very good, but if you having problems please re-visit the topic. you might be fine like many users or again, not
