same performance

i am most likely going to get the 9800 pro, but i ran doom 3 at medium high settings with a p4 2.4 ghz 512 mbs and a 9100 card, i head that doom 3 requires more them hl2. Is this true will i be able to play hl2 at medium settings?

Radeon 9100 is a pretty slow card. If you can, however, run Doom 3 at medium settings satisfactorily, I'd say you'll be more than fine to run HL2 at medium (or maybe above) settings.

However, the 9800 Pro would be a GREAT upgrade.

I think you and I must have a very different ide of what playable is. There is no way in hell that machine could play Doom 3 at medium and still be playable, in my opinion. I have a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ OC'd to 3200 specs, 512mb DDR PC2700 and 9800 pro OC'd to over XT specs, and medium is playable at 1024*768 with no AA and no AF, but it still slows down occassionally (enough to piss me off).

Then again, I get extremely pissed off at little minor slow downs and my eyes are irritated at anything less than 35 fps constant.
