So I just order a Samsung 215TW from Circuit City (since they had close to the best price and gave me no-interest payments untill 2008) for a little less than $500.

I had been scouring reviews for almost a month now and had narrowed my decision down to the Samsung 205BW, which our own Barney Fife owns and loves. But today I started reading up on it's slightly bigger brother, the 215TW. It sported a 1000:1 contrast ratio over the 205BW's 600:1 and every review said it had awesome image quality. Not to mention it's got D-Sub, DVI, Composite and S-Video connections. So for less than $200 I figure it was the better buy in the long-run.

As I type this my NEC FP912sb is still slowing decaying in it's health. Soon it will be near dead like my friends who has the same model.

Anyway, this Samsung is looking pretty damn shweet. Any comments on it?

I've read quite a number of reviews on this model, and every one of them has said nothing but positives. So all i can say is good choice, it is meant to be a very good monitor !!

And can you recall the order and switch it to 215tw instead of 205bw?

Coincidence, was about to start a thread on a Samsung LCD.

I'm planning to buy a Samsung 940 BF, 19" with a 2ms responsetime and a max res of 1280x1024.

I'm quite unexperienced with TFT screens, got a huge 17" beast here (dating back to 1995 or something) and I'm a little worried about native resolutions. I currently play everything happily at 1024x768, using a 7900 GT. How much would my game performance be affected by going to 1280 (can't test it, this thing can't even handle it)?

And I assume 1280 is the native resolution, how badly would image quality be affected if I switch to 1024 for games in the future that my 7900 won't be able to handle well?

I got a 19" monitor recently and I can honestly say that there is little to no performance hit from 1024 to 2048.

Hell, my Bf2 runs a lot smoother somehow o_0

The performance isn't that big between 1024x768 and 1280x1024. Well I guess it can be with AA/AF in some games but I would think your 7900gt would be able to handle it. We will have to see about Crysis. There might be other settings that you could turn down instead of resolution, like light detail or something. Having a bigger display does make the game look a lot nicer.

Running in non-native resolution on an LCD make the details look a little muddy. Not to mention more pixelated from a lower resolution.
I'll upload a few pics in a second.
Edit:
I didn't move the guy at all. I just hit Esc, changed the resolution then hit esc again to get out of the menu to take pictures. I used 2xAA 8xAF HQ.
Didn't pick up the difference quite as well as in person but there is some lack of detail you can see.

Thanks for the effort Asus.

Well I ordered it, oddly enough it was €115,- cheaper on the internet than in the store, and I even included a €25,- dead pixel warranty. Glad I didn't obey my impulse buy urge in the store.

Enjoy your 3yr parts/labor/backlight warranty.
