So heres the story. Like two weeks ago I bought a SATA-II HDD (Western 320GB SE16). Before this I had a 120gb Seagate (IDE). Well I plug-in the new HDD and install Windows XP SP2 on it and everything still works fine. The computer detects it as a 320gb HDD. Now I have two copys of windows in my computer (one in the SATA drive and one in the IDE). I boot the comp with the windows on the SATA drive.

Now I have installed the drivers and moved the files from the IDE drive to the SATA drive and everything still works. But here starts the bullshit! Then I format the IDE drive. WHOOPS! Seems like my computer didn't like that. Now the bios detects the drive as a 320gb drive. But it won't boot! Bla bla bla boot failure install system disc. Well I put the system disc on the drive. WTF! Now it detects my HDD as a 130gb drive (all free space).K... WTF is going on. Well then I thought that maybe changing the Sata connector would work. So I plug the drive on the Silicon image (or what ever that is) and whoom it detects the drive as a 298gb drive... Hookay I'm fine with that. But it still won't boot.

So... Anyone got any suggestions? Yes. I have tried almost everything from the BIOS. Disconnected the IDE. Nothing seems to work. Currently I'm like one phonecall away from changing my PC for an Xbox and a Wii. Seems like even if I buy a new case the computer will still **** up.

Oh, and the parts are:
AN8-SLI Premium
AMD 3700+
1gb DDR-400

You went wrong by installing two copies of windows. Everything went downhill quickly from there. You don't seem to have enough computer knowledge to try things like that. Also, in case you haven't done it, EVERY time you unplug / plug-in ANYTHING, unplug you PC from the wall first.

Now completely unplug your IDE drive, and re-format you SATA one. Install windows on it. Now plug in your IDE drive (unplugging your PC first of course), and format it.

But then I'll lose my pornz :'(

Well I guess having two copies of windows at the same time never does good. I guess they might have been sharing some important files (registery etc.) and when I deleted the other copy the other one lost important files.

But I did unplug my computer every time I plugged something in my comp. Well I better start formating.

But still that doesn't solve the problem that windows doesn't detect the old partitions in the new drive nor does it detect it as a 320gb one it just says 130gb of free unpartitioned space.

But that could be because I used a different copy of windows... The one I used had SP2 preinstalled.

Well I'll try the formating thing when I get home. If that doesn't work I'll move to the friggin mountains in Norway and start the life of a viking.

Hookay. Got the copy with the SP2 pre-installed and it automatically detected the drive as it should.

The problem with the previous disc was that it was made from my own copy of Windows XP with nlite. I just had an accident with coffee and the disc got damaged so I threw it away.

Man this has been an adventure. I almost burned my car because of this :D

ps. don't smoke while driving
