Can I plug a SATAII drive into a SATA I connector slot? Or do I have to buy a SATA II card? is it worth buying a SATA II Card?

yes, no, no. The card would only run at the speed of the pci bus.

Also, harddrives themselves aren't nearly quick enough to use the bandwidth of SATA2. It's worse then PCI Express vs AGP in graphics cards.

SATA II does not specify more bandwidth than SATA I. SATA II does not mean 3 Gb/s. Directly from http://www.sata-io.org/: SATA II does not mean 3Gb/s.
