satt gfx to high...game crashes

I seem to have turned one or more of the gfx settings to high, so now HL2 crashes when the menu background finishes loading.....Isn't there some command i can write in the launch options or inn a file in the HL2 folder that defaults the gfx settings or sets it lower? Or do i have to reinstal the game?

Try adding
+map_background none
to the end of your HL2 shortcut. Should start the game without the 3D background.

I did try looking for a command to set all teh gfx settings to the lowest possible value, I'm sure the command exists, just couldn't find it on a list of cvars. Hopefully Asus' suggestion will sort the problem.
