Just curious to know if anyone has any idea about cell shaded looks... You think it will be possible to put a cell shading on some models, but not others?
Like, maybe one team of cell shaded characters, whereas the other team is normal?

Valve have said it would only be a case of writing a cell type shader to do it, some of those anime style mods are going to try that I think


You can probably find info on writing the shaders at sites about DX9, ATI, nVidia and so on. I imagine they'll be either the same kind or very similar as their just DX shaders really
 
Not sure if this is correct, or what your asking but. In TFC I downloaded cell shaded models for some of the characters; spy, hwguy etc. And some of the others were just normal models. So I think it can already be done.

Cell shading is more than just thick black outlines around the model like the ones HL1 can emulate with a simple reverse facing polygonal method like the one used in Buzzy Bots mod.
 
Sven Co-op uses that emulation for cell shading too.

But sure full cell shading will be possible, you can write shaders for metal objects or whatever you like, so why no cell shaders?
