Hi guys,

Ive got a problem with half life 2. Me and my friend are both playing 2 different campaign games on the same computer but because it saves at checkpoints it overwrites each others games automatically!

And u cant name ur files i.e. Frank 1.

Anyone got a solution to my problem?

Cheers,

You could play chapter per chapter? If you goto New Game you can start at whatever chapter you want. That is, if you've gotten so far...

you guys can always have seperate save files for each other. Browse to your hl2 save folder (you should know where it is) and copy those files to another backup folder for yourself. Do this everytime you're done playing the game. When you start, copy the files that were overwritten back from the backup folder, to the main game save folder. It's a stupid work around, but thats all you can do.

you can name save files, though im not sure if that will prevent your file from being overwritten; you can try it anyway, though
just enable the console, and type 'bind "KEY" "save savename"' where KEY is the key you want to bind to save your game, and 'savename' is what you want to name your file. for your case, youd probably want to bind 2 keys to save as different filenames for you and your friend.

edit: i forgot to mention. the hl2 loading screen won't differentiate between these 'named' savegames, so to load your files you'll have to go again to the console, and type 'load "savename"', to load your file.

hey a more efficiant way of doing it would be to keep to SAVE folders in your hl2 folder
F:\Games\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\half-life 2\hl2
there is already a SAVE folder in there so just make a new one called SAVEb or something, then when your mates playing just rename the original SAVE folder to SAVEa and SAVEb to SAVE, and when you want o play just do the vice versa this way they wont overwrite and youll have to individual campaigns....hope you see this :P
