This was a kids movie? Seriously, an arm is ripped off in a fit of rage (granted sand came out), moments of tension between Max and the Coral (the whole hide away thing) threats to eat Max (really that first scene where Max's is wrecking the houses and the rest are questioning him very aggressively and threatening to eat him)

Also the tension between Judith and Max, that was something that could have ended badly, there an atmosphere of danger in the air too which was very good.

K.W. and Coral relationship to me seems to be a outlet to Max's real mother and father, the uncontrollable father and the struggling wife who can't take the out of control shit anymore, making a already hard life even harder. The whole sailing away bit representing Max having to leave his abusive father behind, even knowing he loves him and his father love him also but they have to part ways.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this movie, good movie its 2nd place to pixar's Up in my books.

PS:

Forest Whitaker was playing IRA? WHAT? didn't even sound like him. Could be wrong although, maybe I wasn't paying attention.

It's hinted upon, the absent father in the movie.

At the start, Max is looking at a globe, it said something about his dad, and Max is the owner of it.

The mother having the boyfriend over, clearly looking for another companion, it didn't seem like the father died, that could have translated into the owl's for the fantasy, probably the mother was ****ing around why the father was being a dick.

Anyway I'm reading way into things here. :afro:

This movie was like being locked in a room full of high school stoners for 2 hours. Way too depressing for kids. I think it was more reminiscent of Requiem for a Dream just because of the constant downward spiral and hopeless atmosphere. Every time something happy happens, you know that it will definitely end with someone getting hurt and the situation becoming worse.
