Due to the fact that dx9 was recently introduced(maybe 2-3 months?), I'm afraid that hl2 will be able to use only a few function of dx9.

Do you think how much dx9 functions and potentiality are utilized in the game?

I'm just curious because dx9 was just introduced and that any game-maker won't have enough competency to make good use of new technology.

Im sure Microsoft has been working with Valve for a long time with DX9, developers usually get their hands on technology like this a long time before the general public does (specially a big company like Valve) so i'm sure they are pretty familiar with DX9 already.

DX9 was released last december, plus developers knew what it would include at least a year before that. HL2 could use every feature in DX9 if they wanted to, and I think Valve came close to doing it.

HL2 will have more DX9 features than any game out this year.

of course getting the tech along side the hardaware plus drivers and the actual game is another thing but they know what they are doing.
DX10 when that out? hehe

dx10 will be released when Longhorne (MS new Windows) is shipped I believe.

M$ has stopped developing new dx versions for 2 years and put all their effort to the os.

Yes that's tue, dx10 is a long way ahead.
But don't be afraid as dx 9.1 is on the corner, scheduled for release 1half 2004 with P.S 3 (no card today has P.S 3 support) which enables more beautifull things to see, like hair blowing in the wind or real floating cloth.
Expect the new nv40 and r400 cards to support dx 9.1 and blow the frame rates up..

The reason for the delay is all dx9 content has been dropped to enable
apples to apples comparisons for ati and nvidia cards

Yeah, I agree with kkevin666, it's all about the video cards. Damnit Nvidia! You're ****ing with your fans guys. Get it straight or become the underdog as ATI once was

So why fx card don't work well with it if they know dx9 for a year now?

Well, from what I seen with HL2 using directx 9, they already have some great enhancements coded into the game. The water effects are going to be the best yet, surpassing UT2003. Their bump mapping looks awesome too.

Then it's an auspicious for people to buy a DX9 card right about now..
