scam or no scam?

Sounds like you still pay even if you don't win the auction. I wouldn't bother.

This sounds utterly retarded...*bids for 50" TV*

Why don't you test it and then tell us whether it was a scam or not?

I watched this wii auction for a while, and tbh if you accept the fact that it's gambling (not shopping) and go into it with your eyes wide open, then it doesn't seem all that insidious.

HOWEVER. LOL. Their 'Bidbutler' thing is glitched/scammy as all shit...! I just watched 2 people's Bidbutlers fire off against eachother 30 times in the space of a second, bumping the deadline up by 6 minutes (it normally only goes up by 15-ish secs a time), and instantly adding $4-5 to the asking price. Seems like their 'helpful bidding agent' software sometimes accidentally (lol...) makes nice extra wads of cash for the site owners. I just saw it happen again. This seems to be pretty common then.

So assuming the site owners aren't defrauding everyone, then it's basically like a raffle where you're encouraged to buy ticket after ticket and then you pay for your prize at the end. But they could well be rigging shit, and even if they're not doing so deliberately, the auctions/lotteries still have glitches which cause the bidders to haemorrhage money.

I noticed the automatic bidding do that too. Similar thing an item was nearing end and when I looked back it was at 20 minutes.

Considering each bid costs 75c and the automatic bidder can frequently bug out and chew through like 10-20 of your bids pointlessly all at once, I can't see the incentive to use it. Do people just leave it on while they're asleep and not care that it's burning their cash on a bonfire?? You'd have to be a moron. Could be Swoopo shill accounts of course :|

So basically people keep bidding and bidding until they end up paying for more than the actual retail pricepoint out of fear that they could be buying nothing at all if they lose the bidding war. I like this.

Just go for it blackout, be a man! Do the right thing!

LoL when will you people learn that things aint ****in' free?!

sure blackout, that site is going to give you a 16 gig iPhone 3g, a 360, a ps3, an iPod and a plasma tv for free.

Just fill in your e-mail, credit card number , adress, and you'll get it.

TBH it probably is safer to let other people do your thinking for you :P

It's legit. I know a web designer who works for 'em.

Sites likes http://www.giftmonkey.com/ can be quite legit as they say they cover costs via sponsors. The problem is you have to spend a lot of your time to even have a remote chance of reclaiming a product. You could spend equal time doing actual work and earn more money.
