Hey everyone,

My internet is currently shaped. Anyway i got on steam today and saw that steam has released updates for 3 of my games, anyway i clicked on the "my games" tab and the tab came up and it was blank except for writing up the top saying "scanning for steam updates" after 2 hours i quit out of steam and restarted it, i left it for more hours and it still is saying that. I have restarted steam atleast 5 times. It has been atleast 7 hours, and im dieing to play a game! i asked one of my mates about this and he suggested that steam is actually downloading the updates and just hasnt gone to the games list and is stuck on the "scanning for steam updates" page so there is no way i can stop the updates. Could someone tell me what i can do? because if steam is downloading updates, my download speed is running at 10kb a second so it will be updating for the next 10 days till i get unshaped.

Please someone help me

You could always go offline. If you disconnect from the internet then Steam will start in offline mode and will not scan for Steam updates.

Yeh that would work, but the games i want to play on my game list are mutiplayer only :P

In that case then your gonna have to download the updates. You won't be allowed on the servers with an outdated version.

At this moment there are hundreds of thousands of people currently online, and no reported Steam problems so the throttling is coming from your end. The 'scanning for Steam updates' can occur when firewall settings are preventing Steam using the necessary ports to update. Also Steam's download speeds are incredibly quick and you're not seeing that either. So definitely a connection issue here.
