I've been listening to Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan (SOAD's former backup vocalist/lead guitar and bassist, respectively)'s new band Scars on Broadway, as well as Serj Tankian (former lead singer)'s new solo album, and I have to say both are really good.
I've always loved Daron's vocals (even though most seem to hate him, different strokes I guess. My sister thinks Serj's vocals are annoying) so I'm really enjoying Scars. It's a pretty good album...not as good as SOAD's stuff but it's also really different.
Meanwhile Serj's music is much more like SOAD, again, not as good but still highly enjoyable. I'm not going to go so far as to say I'm glad the band went on hiatus, I want a new album from them, but these solo projects are nothing to be scoffed at.
Now if only Rammstein would release a new album...
