To anyone who thinks the end of the health-care vote means a return to civility, wake up.

Obama Derangement Syndrome—pathological hatred of the president posing as patriotism—has infected the Republican Party. Here's new data to prove it:

* 67 percent of Republicans (and 40 percent of Americans overall) believe that Obama is a socialist.

The belief that Obama is a “domestic enemy” is widely held—a sign of trouble yet to come.

* 57 percent of Republicans (32 percent overall) believe that Obama is a Muslim
* 45 percent of Republicans (25 percent overall) agree with the Birthers in their belief that Obama was "not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president"
* 38 percent of Republicans (20 percent overall) say that Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did"
* Scariest of all, 24 percent of Republicans (14 percent overall) say that Obama "may be the Antichrist."

While I dont agree, I can understand why a large amount of them think hes a socialist... but a secret Muslim? Antichrist? Really? We're still not over this?

I want to know where and how this poll was taken. Its one thing if they randomly chose 2000+ republicans across the nation, but its another if they conducted this poll in a very tight knit, ultraconservative town/county. Because if thats the case, then these numbers are probably off when representing gop members as a whole (but i doubt by much)

My god.
I mean, my mother thought Obama was a muslim briefly, until I corrected her. She needs to stop listening to AM radio.

I'm sorry to say, but I think America is now officially over. When you have so many people being retards and thinking they're not, well you can't really maintain that shit.

We're no different than the rest of the world. We just have our own special breed of crazy to call our own. Germany persecutes Homeschoolers, Britain is retreating before the will of their increasingly fundamentalist Muslim minority and calls it tolerance, People are still committing genocide in Africa, and everyone thinks the world is going to end because not everyone agrees with them.

I don't trust polls. Its too easy to be selective and ask leading or trick questions.

I doubt those numbers are accurate... otherwise he would have never been elected.

I like this quote by David Frum: "Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us, and now we are discovering we work for Fox."

Yeah, this is real. I've met people like this. They think he should be hung, then they walk away furious when I want them to explain why.

Someone needs to do something, this is outrageous. The fear-mongering with regards to a president should have a lid on it or something (I don't know if it's actually even legal to spread things like that), I don't know, but someone definitely needs to clear the air.

Even McCain couldn't quell this, maybe he should get some more air time. He claimed to be pretty close with Obama.

LOL. This makes me think of the scarily true saying that goes something like, "Imagine the average American. Now imagine a full 50% of the population being dumber than that." That's right--****ing scary shit.

What happened to don't criticize the president in war ? Oh right he is not a republican.

Yeah, this is real. I've met people like this. They think he should be hung

Well he IS black after all.

.....okay before I get mobbed I should clarify. You mean well-endowed, not lynched, right? Because the latter is "hanged."

I seriously can't believe that people still think like this, but yeah, I know firsthand that there are Republicans, even YOUNG ones, who think these things are true. Some people really can't get this out of their heads.

I doubt those numbers are accurate... otherwise he would have never been elected.

Why wouldn't he have been elected? That's the poll of Republicans... not including Independants or Democrats. I'm not sure of the actual ratio of any party in America, but I'm thiking the Democrats have slightly more than the Republicans currently.

Not to mention this is a poll over a year later after one of the most polarizing political events in recent memory. I wouldn't be surprised if they were accurate... because being in a majority red state I hear/see people following that rhetoric all the time. It's hardly even as though they're making it up on their own as much as it's being fed to them by individuals from Fox News and your average crazy talk radio people.

It really is sad to think people are so stupid. I mean there are stupid people in any political party but usually it's just a matter of giving them the real information. Ignorance can be forgivable if people are willing to learn. These people are just stubborn idiots who will do whatever it takes to make sure the few things they understand stay the way they are.

What was the most polarizing political event? The election?

Civil war 2 plz, I want a reason to kill these idiots. And by reason I mean excuse.

In my lucid half sleeping last night, I was thinking about how if the states split into two, the Republicans would call them North and South America.

You may continue on with your relevant discussions now.

There is no friggin' way that 14% of people overall think Obama may be the Anti-Christ.

If so, we are screwed.

Even so, that's a pretty big compliment. I mean, not that he's super evil, but that he's that commanding or what have you.

I doubt those numbers are accurate... otherwise he would have never been elected.

Did you watch the run-off to the presidency? There was more crazy piss and vinegar during the 2009 campaign trail than even the previous two elections, which I thought would be tough to beat.

I'd like to believe that these numbers aren't truly representative of Republicans, but you have to remember that a lot of people hated Obama and they still do today. Hell, that's what they were practically trained to do.

He does fit a lot of the official criteria, when you actually look at the prerequisites. There are a few key differences, though, that totally disqualify him. His kingdom is not the revived Holy Roman Empire and he's definitely not the 8th of a series of kings.

And that the Antichrist is a fairy tale. They probably should have figured that out by the time they are a few years old.

Well VT2, lots of people are set in their ways when it comes to religion, as am I to an extent. Still, you can be a devout christian and also use your ****ing brain to realize that Obama is not the antichrist. Its times like now that I fear for the presidents life the most. It only takes one fruit loop to do the dead.

Same here - but if that happened, he would become more powerful than we can possibly imagine.

Its sad because its true. I just want to know though, why are tea baggers getting this riled up about a health care reform that didnt have a public option, nor funding for abortion, nor funding for illegal immigrants? and why dont they get pissed that they have medicare? I mean, technically speaking, medicare and social security are bigger "socialist" programs run by the US gov than the new health care over hall. And its just health care. Obama didn't remove the 2nd amendment, or remove "In God We Trust" from our currency, or paint the white house black and build a mosque. I mean, these people are getting hell bent over the fact that other Americans can actually get medical treatment without going into poverty? boo hoo! we all pay taxes for police and fire fighters, yet many of us will never need to rely on those services. Whats the difference?
