Screen of death in other games

Not a Half-life 2 question (runs excellent, great quality, everything on high) but when I try to install either Battlefield 1942 or Call of Duty somewhat thru installing it comes up with the blue screen of death. It says something about "cache" but I don't remember exactly.

amd 64 3000+
hdd 160gb
ram 1024mb
nvidia 6800 agp
