Now that PSP is coming out on december 12 and the DS launching today I have to bring something up that is always bugging me.

Whenever I go out and buy it a handheld gaming device wheter it be gamegear, gameboy colour, or gameboy advanced they always get scratched. It pisses me off. You would have thought that some company would have though of a solution to that already.

Now I dont know if nintendo did this intentionally but the game boy SP flips so that the screen is covered and your are free to through it in your pocket without worries. My brother has had his SP for months now and he doesnt have a single scratch. Howevor I had my game boy advanced for one day and it already had a scratch on it. I dont think I am going to have to worry about this with the DS (thanks god). Howevor sliding the stylus around might cause a few scratches.

Why cant a company just make replacable screen that you can swap out with a screw driver or something? Its not that hard and they would make a fortune of them anyways.

I am getting a PSP also and the way that thing is designed is going to get it scratched to hell when im throwing it in my backpack on the bus. (dont mind taking the psp on the bus but the DS stays at home :0 )

So does anyone know if sony is doing anything to solve this problem or are they going to make me spend $250 CDN every 4 months dont have to put if with a scratched screen.

I dont give a shit if everything else scratched but as long as the screen doesnt im happy. I remind myself of those people with their Ipods that put them in metal cases. Never understood why they do that. I dont mind if my ipod gets scratched. Atleast I can see the crome and dont have to pull it out of a peice of leather or aluminum case just to change the volume. Ipods look better scratched anyways. Doesnt look brand new and you just bought it to show off. But if my PSP scratches and I cant see the game going on behind it I will be mad. :flame:

But looking at a screen shot of the PSP it looks like its got some sort of protective cover on it. The screen looks like its got a texture kind of look to it.

Maybee though if the screen is backlit you wont notice the scratches as easily

well, it will be alot more 'scratch-protective' than previous generation handhelds, but if they had gone to a great lenght of doing it, they would've stated it to get more attention etc.

keep it in the carry case : /

I don't really use handhelds much, but yeah, my iPod's completely scratched up

...there's even some on the front :P

They have some uite interesting scratch proofing around now, but it hasn't been implemented yet. In fact, they tested it with a CD and gave several people different implements to try and scratch the CD. The only person to scratch it, and in fact make a mark was the guy who really worked at it with a trust swiss army knife. Other people had pieces of metal, pens, forks, coins etc...

Never liked carrying cases. Just a pain to carry around. They never fit in my pocket.

And if you read this Here Sony has been using this in the ericson p910 phone and are planning on using it in their blue ray disks. So I think there is a good chance it will appear in the PSP.
