Script causing Firefox to run slowly

I'm using the latest nightly build of Firefox under Windows 98 SE.
When I view a thread on these forums, FF displays a warning message (screenshot attached to this post).
I had the same problem with FF 1.0, except that it didn't display a warning (threads just took a long time to load).

If anyone else is having this problem and/or knows a workaround, please post in this thread.

It's the script that turns certain words into adverts. At the moment we're still optimising the script. I'm pretty certain there's an option to turn the script debugger thing off, I'll see if I can locate it for you.

Bare with us while we sort it out :)

odd

Does it happen with every thread you open?

I know its an obvious thing to say but, thought of upgrading? I'm using Win2K (and XP on my laptop) and have never got this error or any error come to think of it, on this forum :)

Oops, started posting before you posted, sorry. Does this only effect < 98 (Pre 2k IE, I guess) users then?

First time I've seen the script pop up but I know in later versions of Windows FF will freeze momentarily as it parses the ad links. IE is uneffected.

Yes, it does. The warning also appears when I start a new thread.
But it doesn't happen with Opera 7.54u1, so that's what I'll be using to browse these forums from now on.

Stick with firefox... It is only a script that is being looked at...

I've heard of this new internet browser named Internet Explorer.. you may wish to give that a try.

Yup, it takes a while for the adlink script to parse through the entire page. If you want to get rid of the error, I would personally choose getting adblock over disabling the warning itself as it's saved my browser session on some occasions where a bad script threatened to lock up my pc.

If you do want to get rid of the warning (you'll still have the pause) you can do this: type "about:config" (without quotes) in the address bar and hit enter, type "dom.max_script_run_time" (without quotes) in the filter box, doubleclick the entry that still shows in the list and increase the number, then press OK and close the window. It determines the maximum time a script is allowed to run before the warning appears. This should fix the warning at least.

although I'm not supposed to endorse it (even though I use it :O), theGreenBunny's solution is best :)
