Sdk?

too bad we dont get the sdk now, that way we could mod for cs:s in the meantime... or at the very least map and customize models.

Read the Info from Valve section more often.
Teddy:
I sent an email to Jay Stelly (Senior Software Development Engineer @ valve) asking about the release of the SDK (in light of CS:S's release), and here's what he said:

Is it okay to post links to third party maps now, now that people have payed for the full version?

No, they are still created using the illegal source leak.

Hmm just got an email from the [hlcoders] mailing list:

Any idea on an approximate month or year+quarter that the sdk may see light in Alfred?
Alfred Reynolds said:
When its done ;-)

It should be soon (weeks, not months), we are working on it right now.

I know they've said similar things in the past, but I have to believe it can't be too much longer. Mmm famous last words?

Yeah, they should hurry up and release that so when HL2 comes out all the mods could be released shortly after.

It is done, so why are they telling lies to you and I.
It has been given out already to select people.

I'd like to know where you got your information about that, because apart from DoD, that's a load of paranoid crap.

maybe I am wrong, but isn't there some kind of vampire game using source? would that mean they have access to the SDK?

SDK is the proggy used to make mods.

That vampire game is called Vampire Bloodlines, does'nt use the SDK, its a big company that brought the engine, modded it, and made a game with it.

I want hammer :)

I made some cool maps for CS...

I reckon I could get something nice funmaps whipped up in no time .... had i the chance

With all that nice glass smashing, can you imagine the map FLASSES on source? :D

Valve's official word on this was SDK is going to be released shortly before HL2 is released.

I dont' know if this has changed, but that is what I read on their site.

Also, "Some" official developers are using the SDK for their mods. This is separate from the general public, which will get the SDK when HL2 is released. This gives the official modders a bit of a headstart, and helps Valve bugfix the SDK at the same time.

Still wish Doug had been right about it releasing in three or four months... five months ago

The sooner they release it the sooner we'll see masses of proffesional-quality community content- although unlike some I highly doubt there'll suddenly be half a dozen quality mods available immediatly after the SDK's appearance.

What's all this about modders getting the SDK early? To my knowledge, it's only the DoD and CS teams with access (for obvious reasons, as they're retail now).

I'm pretty sure I read there was a Vampire Game coming out (as already mentioned) and so they must have "purchased" the SDK and rights to use the engine. Also, there was a posting by Valve that said the SvenCo-op team was doing something.

Again, don't sweat it. They only gave it to the professional modders whom they could trust to not give anything away and who had the experience to help them debug the SDK while using it.

I mean, it's not totally unexpected that Valve has hired someone(s) to build games with Source, right? I bet they are just waiting till one of those mods is practically ready before releasing HL2.

Ah, I wouldn't call the Vampire team modders; they've actually licensed the engine with every intention of creating a retail game, so they undoubtedly have access to Source's source code (blergh, confusing) and suchlike.

Sven Co-op does not have access to anything that the rest of the community lacks- it's a common misconception. Valve have stated that they'd be happy to answer the team's queries when development on SCII begins, in much the same way they offered assistance during the development of the original Sven Co-op and the rest of the budding mod community.

Troika (Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines) is doing what Valve did in the beginning, make a game using an existing engine. As Half Life was based on the Quake engine, so is Bloodlines based on Source. There is also a MMORPG in development which uses Source.
