seriously, when will publishers realize that this crap doesn't work and only causes them to lose sales and promote piracy?

I was so close to buying a 4-pack on steam....
thankfully I spotted the the securom requirement in the top corner
what's worse, you need to be logged into GFWL (online) in order to save your game
I mean..... what if your internet or the server is down? guess you're SOL

too bad, they lost my business
:flame:

*EDIT*
"Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE "

I have a few GFWL games. You can save them when offline...

"Games for Windows Live also allows you to make on off-line account. This allows you to save games but obviously not access any on-line portions of the game."

****ing idiots, cancelled my pre-order from Game. I couldn't give a toss about Securom if the activations are quite high, but I'm sick to the back teeth of GFWL. I've yet to play a game where this crap actually benefits the game rather than hinder it.

And yet, it'll be on torrent tracker sites a week before release.

I've been playing Resident Evil 5 on the PC, and that has Games for Windows Live, and it seems greatly improved from the last time I encountered it (Fallout 3 release) - it's fast and unintrusive. The only caveat is having a windows live id, but that takes 10 seconds to make and it keeps you logged in across all of your GfWL games.

but securom bleeeh

This type of shit inspires one to WANT to bootleg the game, I hope 2k is reading this. Your attempts are BS and if hackers want this thing gutted and glued back, it WILL happen. This only serves to PISS THE **** out of regular gamers like myself.

Have you tried using GFWL to play multiplayer games? What with it's terrible P2P hosting system, frequent disconnects and the brilliant feature it includes to periodically erase all your saved data. Bioshock 2's multi is going to be using this system as it's method of online play.

Ability to save, wait what? Does this mean you need to log in to Live crap in order to save the game? What a bullshit.

I completely forgot Bioshock 2 even had multiplayer, tbh. XD

GFWL works fine on the only game I play multiplayer on(DoW2.). I like how it links with my XBL gamertag, so I don't have to make multiple accounts.

You just need to log in with an account. It can be an offline account(also called local account) or one associated with Xbox Live/Windows Live. Like I said, it works offline. As for securom, that's another issue.

Well, I'll probably get it anyway. SecuROM didn't annoy me with the first game, and I already have a live account. Now I just hope that GFWL works.

Not interested in the game, wasn't going to buy anyways.

Bioware and EA learned the lesson. 2K is a slow learner and will not have my money. Case closed.

This isn't bad compared to what 2K did to Borderlands' DLCs. They have SecuROM, lol.

Absolutely can't stand GFWL. GTA 4 for example instead of having the saves in it's folder in My Documents has it in the appdata folder, why?. Also the stupid restriction on sharing save files. You can't simply copy save files between PC's because GFWL will reject them. I backup my save file when i installed Win 7 yet when i restored it was rejected and the only way to use my own save files is to use Xliveless.

and unfortunately Microsoft will not soon abandon the Live system because of how well it has worked for Xbox

hopefully they will completely overhaul the GFWL system considering it's been met with so much disapproval from end-users and professionals alike

Hey guys,

As many of you are aware, yesterday Steam's pre-purchase program began and the specs for BioShock 2 were posted along with that announcement.

These specs were taken from the retail packaging of BioShock 2. And since bullet points on the back of the box don't always explain the full story, here is a little more detail about what that means.

BioShock 2 is using a standard Games for Windows Live activation system, much like other games you have played in the past. That doesn't mean you always have to be online to play or save the game - you can create an offline profile for the Single Player portion of the game (you just won't earn achievements and you can't play Multiplayer, of course.)

We are using SecuROM only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2. That is it's only use.

I am now checking the final plans for BioShock 2's specifications for Steam - and I'll get you a more complete answer by the end of the week. I have also been compiling a feature that will help answer a host of questions about BioShock 2 on the PC, including a podcast and screenshots of the PC version, and that should be out within a few days as well.

I'm sorry for the confusion, and I hope to clear it up entirely for you soon.

-Elizabeth

There you go :)

It looks a bit like Microsoft is paying developers to use GFWL imo, just like how they(or ATI/Nvidia) used to pay devs to make DX10 exclusive features which could have also been done on DX9(Crysis Very High, for example).

I haven't noticed any problems with Securom games, I just install them and they work. Haven't read about Securom, does it cause security issues or something?

Alan Wake anyone? (before MS decided that pushing Vista is not a priority anymore). Sorry for the OT.

>Securom
>'only for'

Gonna hafta call bullshit on that one.

Poor Elizabeth. She is going to deal with another shitstorm.

I couldn't care less about GFWL because I am anti-social - but you need to actually sign up to some microsoft shit in order to even use GFWL. They get you in their little ****ing club, in order to get you in their other little ****ing club, and that's even if you want to **k*ing play the game!

It's getting worse and worse, right?

In Gears of War, you must do it, or your save file could just ****ing get erased and shit. Well, too bad, start over from the beginning again for the 3rd time because you did some shit. (Yay alcohol)

Grand Theft Auto 4: again, you must sign up to some Microsoft pass shit website in order to sign up to 'LIVE', and then you are allowed to even play the ****ing game you bought!

**** YOU, man - and I mean in the worst kind of way. Like, throwing a brick through your office window kind of shit.

I have used GFWL, and it didn't bother me much. And with a short game like Bioshock 2 presumably is, losing saves isn't going to be a massive problem. Still, it will be an annoyance. I'm still undecided on whether or not to get it.

I've just read the entirety of that thread, and it's still unconfirmed whether or not SecuROM actually will be on the Steam version, although it's certain in retail. 15-activation installation limit, by the way.
