See Through Boxes!

Since the steam revamp I have been experiencing video problems. Objects like boxes and lockers become transparent, so I can see people hiding or walking behind them. As i get closer to the objects they reappear.

Haven't had any problems before and have been playing since release. I don't want to continue playing as I feel guilty with the unfair advantage.

Card: GeFore Mx420 - I have tried different drivers (latest and old) but no luck.

A friend has had a similar problem with his Mx440

Any help would be appreciated...

your card is too old
all graphical errors are down to a card being unable to do all the work - overheating, card dying or just being too old to do what directx 9 cards do

Either that or Steam is forcing DirectX 8 onto your machine (Because your computer isn't high-end enough?).

Try forcing your DirectX to 9 in the options or through console commands.
Try r_lod -1 ?

You should see my LC attempt on my computer. But I think this is not an overheating problem, it's a directX problem.

DX7 glitch. Causes lights and models to be seen behind walls and players.

It's always been around, but since one of the latest updates of Steam it has been occuring more frequently. There is a fix for this but i cannot find it just yet, i will post to let you know when i find it.

Just incase you want to find it before me, here's some infos on the problem.

• It's a problem that occurs in DirectX 7 Rendering mode
• It can be fixed in a few lines of a certain config file
• It is almost possitive that it is not your drivers, "haxx" or "OMGZ0RZ NOOOOBZ GRAFIKX CARD!!!!1111ONEONEONE" (tho in very few cases you can prove me wrong on this statement

• Selling the card on ebay advertising for example "omg this card you can see through boxes on CSS and VAC won't find you!!!!" will be too much of a loss for you, it will be cheaper for you to sell this certain config file on ebay, afaik the problem can be reproduced on all graphics cards

Anyways, will be back when i find the fix.

Thanks for all the help!

I fiddled with the directX config file and changed the screenfademinsize and screenfademaxsize to 0 and all is back to normal. Not sure whether this will cause any other problems or whether it will be picked up as cheating but all is fine at present.

Looks like I'll be keeping the trusty mx420 for at least a little longer...

If it is this easy to fix the error then surely it is equally easy to enforce the error by changing the figures and getting the unfair advantage. Worrying...

I have an ATI 9600XT card and I get this problem.
On the map cs_compound, I can see through loads of the walls including that little iron shed by the main wall (near a large gate).
I can camp in there and see everything going on outside it, its pretty much a wall hack, but it aint my fault and Im not getting done by VAC.

ALso this glitch has only occured on the map compound and that new harbour one - port i think (why i love 24/7 compound).
But I dont use this glitch like a real bitch- I just have a bit of fun by shooting people in the foot through walls and stuff. Honest...
