I'm looking to possibly start a MOD Team to create a TC based on the classic Blood game made by Monolith in 1997.

I'll need to recruit an entire team (mapers, skinners, modelers, coders, etc, etc). I will be able to provide testing, comparison to the original game, gameplay ideas, and other non-direct help to the project. I could also provide the webspace and some web design.

It would be good to have a team of people who have actually played the original and/or still have it to compare.

So, if anyone is interested, please reply.

It's abandonware.
Atleased thats what it seems. Since it's on every abandonware site, including Underdogs, which never illegaly put up games.
However, I'll still send them off an eMail about it.

Also, GT Interactive published it. GT Interactive seems to have been bought or otherwise done-in by Atari, so GT is no longer around, thusly Blood no longer has a publisher.

It might be abandonware, but its still under copyright, which means you can't profit from it or create derivative works without permission.

Besides its just good manners to ask first too, like I always say, worst they can do if you ask is say no, best they can do is offer to help in some way.

Here's an example, a friend who's an artist wanted to do a painting of Stephen King, she didn't know if she needed to ask permission or not and a few of us said its best to try, so she did, and his personal assistant contacted her as Stephen was interested and wanted to know more about it. Don't know whats happened since but chances are she could end up getting to do a proper painting of the guy that he'd then buy off her. He'll then likely go and tell his friends, and she'll get a good reputation and become better known through it.

Edit: also whoever bought the publisher of something, very likely bought all the rights it owned. Which in this case would mean Atari would now own the rights to blood. When you buy out a company its almost always for getting your hands on what they own moreso than simply the name alone.

Blood is NOT abandoneware. Monolith still sells the game, and you have to write to them to get permision to make something from it.

Someone tried to make Duke Nuked 3D mod to source. 3Drealms stoped them, saying they could not make the mod out from theyr game.

You sure they still sell it?
Because apparently your supposed to buy it here: http://store.lith.com/
But their store hasnt worked for years.

It's also not on Atari's list of games.
Not to mention you can search any game-stores webpage (Ebgames, Gamestop, etc) for Blood and it wont come up.
And GameSpots price-checker can't find it for sale either: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/blood/checkprices.html

Seems pretty abandoned to me... since you can't buy it anywhere.

it can be bought in some second hand bins or old stock, and it is kinda classed as abandonware now, but its besides the point. Spectrum games are considered entirely abandonware but you still wouldn't legally be allowed to remake any of them without permission.

Stick me on a contact list for this project if it gets past the pre-production phase. I'd be interested in giving feedback (mapping advice, gameplay advice, etc.) and even contributing if I had the time. For the contribution (mapping, for example) it really depends on when it goes into the production phase and how much time I have on my hands then.

Looking forward to seeing how it works out.

crispy[dot]pie[at]gmail[dot]com - for the contact list.

Care to read this then?

If you are interested in purchasing a copy of Blood or Blood 2, you will need to contact Atari (formerly Infogrames and GT Interactive), the game's publisher, at: [email protected]. Monolith does not sell our titles directly.

Thats why you dont find it in any store, its removed from the store, but its still under selling, but you need to mail atari first.

Also, i have mailed Monolith about this project befor and have not got any respond from them.

EDIT: Send a mail again to them, caus my dream is aswell to rebuild Blood =) Im a good mapper, and have played Blood alot, and i have made alot of maps to it in those days.

Yeah, I still havent got a responce from Lith yet. Guess I'll forward my request to Atari as well.

You would only get a "Atari have no rights on this game, you have to contact the developer for the rights" and then your back to start again.

If you get permision to start this mod, contact me. Il drop what ever im doing, caus i love Blood :P

Well, if Monolith dose not answer us, then they obviously don't care, thusly we could start development.
;)

lol, no not atall.. they just developed it, they probably dont even own any rights to the game now so they couldn't even give you permission if they wanted to. chances are you'll still get shut down when the actual owner comes along, realises you know about rights, and still went ahead doing it.

Why not come up with something original?

I'll leave that job to people with abundant creativity.
Me on the other hand, I'd like to recreate something awesome for the next generation to experience; also for the old school players to re-live the game.

I'll keep trying to track down some kind of offical permission on this in the mean time.

I would not do that =)

Someone tried to make a TC of Duke Nukem 3D. They didn even write to 3D Realms to ask if they could. In midle of production, they got a mail from 3D realms, saying they could not make a mod out of theyr game, and they had to stop the production at once =)

man never would have thought of a blood mod, that would be awsome. I loved blood.

If you get written permission then do it by all means, i'd love to see a decent blood mod (just don't make it as bad as blood 2 was PLEASE!) but if you don't get permission, don't even waste your time trying as you will be stopped from doing it and likely have tons of work you can't use, not to mention you'll get publicly humiliated by the told you so's hehe.

Favorite parts of Blood for me were the train section, the weird ass carnival and I think there was a town in it, unless that was the other game that used the same engine... damnit i keep forgetting what its called, bliink will remember (and remember the hours I spent trying to find its name before she found it in a single google search lol)

I think a mod of blood if one ever happens would have to fix the later levels, it seemed to really fall down past the middle of the game, very boring large empty maps.
