Self-driving car to go on sale in 2008

WINDOWS OS im guessing haha. NOOOO MY CAR CRASHED CAUSING MY CAR TO CRASH!!!!

WAS unstable?

But yeah, I don't trust this. I'll drive myself. It's worked for 5 years, it will keep working past.

I wouldn't trust it.

I'll bet you anything that car is far more safe than the majority of drivers.

Ironicaly, it's a Vectra. :|

Being safer than other drivers, and being safe in general are two WAY different things. Being safer than other drivers really isn't saying much :p

I wonder if it's programmed to pull out from junctions into the path of oncoming motorcycles...it just wouldn't be realistic otherwise.

and of course, when you're on the phone, it needs to go inbetween the lanes, and cut people off.

Reminds me of another favourite manoeuver of shit drivers this car also needs to replicate - moving over to block bikers filtering or try and knock them off.
Practically attempted murder imo (and making the roads even more congested so they get stuck in traffic for longer ). Sadly I usually see at least one example daily.

But back to the self-driving car issue - if people actually took their driving seriously and fully appreciated the responsibility they are charged with instead of wondering what's for dinner and what Paris Hilton is up to next and oh wait I'm driving a car!! then most road safety problems would be solved. We don't need self-driving cars, we need people to take their driving as seriously as they would take anything else with such a capacity to maim and kill when mistakes are made.

Selfdriving cars is a better (rather, more realistic) solution.

Haha, my Vectra drives itself too. I sit there with my arms crossed doing 60mph down a dual carriageway and tell my lass its got autodrive

Haha, I do that sometimes. I made a guy fall off once, it wasn't very fast though, so he wasn't hurt.

It is, there are loads of articles outside of this one.
And yesw RepiV, every possible situation has been tested.
Once they are perfected and proven to be safe, I'll get one.

Well then you're a twat...

Probably envious as secretly you want a bike but too much of a pussy to ride one.

All joking aside, it's a superb (and ultimately inevitable) invention. My main concern is that it will eventually lead to automated traffic grids where manually driven vehicles will not be allowed.

I propose that we make bikers and white van men fight it out. Then car drivers can eat the losers!

Yeah, which is bad news for bikers. At least until self-driving bikes (which I don't think would work well)

This is freaking stupid. I think people have distanced themselves enough from their automobiles as it is. All these new safety technologies make the driver less intimate with their vehicle, and I see that it's finally progressed to the point where the driver doesn't even DRIVE the ****ing thing.

Relax, it's a Vectra. What can go wrong?

... my god, we're doomed!

Exactly...oh well, it'll be decades before anything like that happens so we'll see I guess.

It'd be quite an ironic twist, considering that the whole joy of riding a motorcycle rests with the fact that you control every aspect of your vehicle, more like it was a part of you, rather than a transportation medium.

You could actually talk on your phone while in the car.

I can talk on my phone and still drive line a sane twat, it's the retards that can't do it. They need to be banned from driving, not driving WHILE talking.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it right there.
